Timing seems to be more about Colorado St and Oregon St sniffing around pretty hard. Mora, Jr getting hired at CSU today seems like pretty coincidental timing... Pretty sure they saw what happened to SDSU last year and realized they've gotten pretty lucky their program has been gutted with the coaching changes they've had. Coming up with a few hundred thousand, which would get them top few of the FCS but still the bottom of the FBS, would probably insulate them from taking a bottom feeder FBS job. Don't think the extension is going to change the issues they have previously faced moving up. Is there some hidden movement behind the scenes that make this supposedly different than last time? Quote
homer Posted yesterday at 07:50 PM Posted yesterday at 07:50 PM Dom’s intuition may be right but I lean more towards Polosek saw an opportunity to get a raise and some more financial support and pounced and got the school and boosters to up their ante. The details of the raise will be telling 1 Quote

homer Posted yesterday at 08:29 PM Posted yesterday at 08:29 PM I will also add that if a football only invite does come for NDSU, the remaining Summit/MVFC members better be ready to push for a vote to remove them from the Summit league. NDSU will still be a competitor so why make it easy for them by providing a bus league for other sports. FBS should be the goal and the quickest path for all of these schools (Dakota) to move is together. Quote

If you can pay the bills, you can be in the conference. Grand Forks certainly has geographic disadvantages, but I would argue it is in fact small-minded to exclude potential advancement and reorganization based purely on that. Not wanting to aggressively compete with the Fargo-Moorhead area and beyond is arguably one of UND’s biggest flaws; you can’t just be niche and opportunistic. You have to take some chances. There’s no question that reorganization in college football is upcoming. The timeline is fluid, but whether UND athletics would be the Pirates (more likely) or the Yankees (less likely), they need to be prepared to make a hard decision financially. Conservatively bowing out echoes the early 2000s, significantly, and the fact some can’t see that is a concerning ignorance towards historical precedent. Eyeballs matter- media rights drive most (almost all)decisions. The media money isn’t there for the four Dakota schools. Virginia Beach has more population than the Dakotas combined. Quote

Being a G5 football school in the middle of the best FCS conference and 3 hours from a a B1G school would also have it's advantages. Whatever. All conjecture at this point. I've always stated if NDSU moved up I'd love to have a Regional rival. That doesn't exist without UND or SDSU. Quote

There is strength in numbers and along with those numbers, bargaining power. Quote

Wilbur Posted 21 hours ago Posted 21 hours ago Is it just me, or would others love to see NDSU move up to the big boy level to thereby completely eliminate all future national championships won at that school? I'll hang up and listen. Quote

I agree, if they move up and especially with the South Dakota schools collapsing under their own weight that leaves us positioned to pick up the void and move to the top. However, I remember how people thought NDSU moving up from D2 would somehow help us and be a disaster for them. We all know how that turned out. NDSU never wins a natty again if they move up, that's for sure, but I sure hope they don't somehow catch lightning in a bottle again. I think the whole point is moot, I'm not convinced they get that mythical invite. Quote

Unless FBS splits into 2 totally different divisions and both have a playoff system. No thanks. Quote

I wouldn't say my interest would drop. But I feel at some point, the G6 and certain FCS schools would merge into a level. In addition to the Dakota and Montana schools, put us in the Mountain West / Pac X and divide up into divisions. Quote

I don't see the attraction of more far flung teams and games and maybe a low rung bowl game if you're lucky. I like where we are now with the ability to drive to a couple road games a year if want to. If FBS was to split that would be a different story. I do have to admit that I was against moving to I-AA when the SU's did and I was completely wrong on that so my opinion isn't worth much. Quote

You go from playoff football Decembers in the Dome and raising FCS trophies to raising the pop tart bowl trophy. James Madison paints a good picture of the future in FBS for FCS schools moving up. They will likely finish 11-1 this season but a loss on the road to Louisville costs them any chance of the CFP over a Tulane team that got nuked by Ole Miss and UT-San Antonio. Quote

A couple schools had openings and Tim said his agent was "in contact with a lot of people right now" and now he's saying his agent's discussion "wasn’t so much between his agent and other schools but between his agent and search firms". Larsen got punked. Quote
