Only concern w/ Hakstol is that he likely retains the current staff. He's known Jackson for many decades & don't see him letting go a close friend, known Goehring for over a couple decades & Simpson he recruited. Loyalty is a good virtue, but not when it's a blinding loyalty.

I'm not sure this is a concern with Hak. I think he's more competitive than he is loyal. Remember he parted ways with Eades which I can't imagine was easy. By all accounts he thinks very highly of Jackson (I think tried to get him to go with to Philly and Seattle), so I'd imagine he would retain him but not so sure on the others. Also would make sense why Jackson was named the Interim.

Sorry if this has already been asked, is Hak currently employed? I live over by him in GF and I see him all the time.

No he's not, but still under contract with Seattle.

I wonder how that works if he takes another job. Is the Kraken contract null and void or do they have to continue to honor that? I mean if you are gonna make 500k to coach UND but get paid from Seattle 2M +/yr to be at home might have an impact on a decision.

"8 seasons of a combination of full-time collegiate or professional hockey coaching experience and/or professional hockey playing experience."

Who had 6 or 7 that they just shut out?

The observation that CSC has exactly 8 years coaching is most curious.

Wednesday at 2359 hours tells me they have a short shortlist.

Someone has to be named interim coach in the meantime, so it's no small surprise that it was Jackson since he's got the most seniority of the remaining staff. Meaning he's maybe there to fill the temporary coaching vacancy & no more.

Am guessing that if UND were going to go with Hakstol that they would have already announced it, like they did immediately when Berry & Hakstol originally became coaches.

Don't they need to post the job if it is not an internal Hire.  I thought that was the case, but not 100% sure.

Application deadline is the 26th...in two days.
Which means that this process had already begun weeks ago and they already have their guy.

Close applications Wednesday the 26th; announcement on Thursday or Friday at the latest?  With the portal opening on Sunday, they will want time for public comments on the new direction of the program. I have to imagine Dane is in the loop at least on the general direction they are leaning so he can reassure current team members and recruits.

The longer they wait, the more likely something leaks from a player, agent, family member, etc. But I agree, with this short of a window they already know who the next coach will be.  This also screams Fruechte vibes; meaning the interim will be retained for continuity.  Who would be most likely to retain Dane?  To me, this makes Hak the strong favorite with a former player a remote possibility.

St. Clair's experience is mostly at the Junior level, not collegiate or professional.

You could be on to something.

It's just like the football hiring process. They named an Interim coach but then a few days later they had Schmidt.

These two major coaching hires are the most crucial hires of his career at UND. It seems like he hit the nail on the head with Schmidt, so let's see who he comes up with for hockey. If he misses on either one of these hires (time will tell), I am of firm belief that he will be gone.

An internal hire/promotion can be announced immediately.
An outside hire must follow the process.

Hak is not internal UND at this time.

You guys are acting like this is an upstart program that needs to be built from the ground up. They're bringing in somebody who has collegiate coaching experience and knows how to win. Anybody bringing up St. Clair or Smaby as being the new head coach isn't serious about this program progressing.

none because nobody follows college hockey outside of UND and a few other schools. Most schools barely have any fans as demonstrated this weekend in St Paul. Not hard to be the best in a niche sport coverage………

How can you say they don’t have fans just bc they don’t travel from Denver, Arizona, or Michigan.

2 of the 3 are playing bigger games next week. Why would you go to MSP, when you can see better games a week later? Ignorant statement basing of attendance last weekend.
