First time in how many years????? And did you really think this was going to be a regular thing?

Honest question for you: what do you think of the rivalry at this point and do you agree with your AD’s comments? Even though it isn’t what it used to be this was the most attended game in the Dome since 2022 (which was the last time UND played there)

Yeah I did.  Uphill climb today against a team with 25 seniors but still expected to compete better than we did.

The state of the rivalry is very generational right now as there was a block of years where we didnt play. So what did our useless AD have to say?

When asked about a new trophy he said he wasn’t that interested in it at the moment, although Polasek said he would be.

Mediocre expectations suck, though; hopefully UND leadership eventually changes philosophy. Need to rise up to the challenge… and that requires some consistent productive change.

One could easily argue beating the best teams in the entire FCS is not quite "mediocre expectations".

More like the highest expectations one can have.

Bubba weakness isn't losing to NDSU and SDSU, it's inability to win against everyone else.

Especially on the road. His road record sucks. His playoff record sucks.

I'll take losing to the eventual Champs in the Dakota State Universities.

But he needs to win against everyone else and have deep playoff runs. Which he never has. He's not some new coach. He's got some of the nicest FCS facilities in the country to work with!

Just one playoff win is pretty unacceptable in my view.

So as long as we çan beat everyone else, you don't mind losing to the xDSUs?

If our goal as a program isn’t to compete for and win FCS titles, we aren't doing it right.

You are making @UND-FB-FAN's point.

Enough of the excuses and alibis.

This can’t really be a surprise to any of us.  We have gone exactly as expected other than a very pleasant surprise with Montana.  The O line has been better than expected with all of the transfers but a better program stacked the middle with no real threat downfield at quarterback.  Not much we were going to do without showing any potential to back 10 off the box.  Even going to the outside their corners sold out every time knowing there was no risk.  Defensively their offense is just better than our defense.  We got manhandled at the line.  They do have a dual threat quarterback and he made plays.  And it’s a road game that Bubba has never shown an ability to be ready for.  Disappointing but definitely not a surprise.  Need to find a way to unstuck the box against us or playing top level teams will not go well.

QB play / passing game is obvious criticism, but the UND defense is atrocious. Coming from the Bubba lineage, this is an ongoing concern. Fruechte brings in new ideas and hopefully will correct things (although today was rough), but the defense is the same ol’ recycled garbage in terms of scheme, play-calling, and adjustments. An inbred defensive coaching staff will do that, though …

UND 7-23 on the road.

Take out the wins over teams like Idaho State, ISU Blue, Northern Colorado, and Murray State and you get down to probably 1 or 2 wins.  Off the top of my head, Portland State is the only road win I can remember over a team that finished above 500.

On the bright side, if bubba won today there is no telling how long Chavez would have extended him for.

Highest expectations would actually be doing what NDSU has done, winning 9 of the previous 13 national championships. High expectations would be competing within your own conference for championships. Mediocre is not expecting to top your conference, but just get by. That’s where it appears UND has been and is at with expectations.

When you lose most road games and then bring that crappy mental approach on the road to NDSU and SDSU, along with FBS games, then yes, you will get your ass kicked. The big picture issue is expectations, though, because the staff needs to be held to an appropriate standard if ongoing improvement isn’t occurring. But right now, winning only 1 or 2 road games per year is apparently considered good enough, which would be “mediocre” expectations.

Youngstown State in 2022. Finished 7-4 Selection committee probably said “you lose to Bubba at home, you are not a playoff team.”
