When was the last time und had an above average defense even within their conference? There’s much more than just the current scheme that needs to go … and it has to do with contracts. ChrisUND1
Would you trust Bubba more in a big, high stakes game on the road, or in a room/at a dinner with a potential high dollar donor? I know which one I’d pick in 2024.

No big deal losing to the strongest team in the country. The goal is to make deep playoff runs and contend for a title. That's the bigger goal. Losing to the Dakota States doesn't hurt playoff chances because everyone knows how strong they are. That's small picture stuff. Bubba will lose to unknown teams this year probably before and/or during the playoffs. That's the bigger picture. And that's the real issue here. This game could have been an FCS semifinal. Then we'd lose and it wouldn't be "mediocre expectations". It would have been meeting expectations only difference was UND made a nice deep playoff run. UND isn't even close to that yet. Accomplish step one first!

UND-FB-FAN
As for expectations, UND can’t even perennially win a game or two in the watered-down FCS playoffs, so you tell me where expectations are with this program … coming from the actual “leaders” in the athletic department. Another thought about the rivalry. I dont think butts in the seats is a good indicator. To me it has to do with ATTITUDE and the HYPE. Back in the early 70s the week of THE GAME thats all you heard about. You could feel it in the air and it would take a national disaster to stop anyone from attending. Now that attitude has changed. WE lost what 10 years of fans-students who werent exposed to it. Plus our limp dick AD has not helped it one bit. As a former player I wish the players and the current fans felt the way I do. It makes me sad to think about it.
Cratter
A nice seven or eight win season. First round exit. Repeat. At most host a home playoff game and maybe win that. Everyone knows that that will be the high ceiling for this team. Don't like it, but we've all seen this show before a bunch of times. Why would anyone expect anything different this time around? Especially with a young qb who constantly throws 5 yard passes into the ground!
forksandspoons
Chaves is too busy on random committees that don’t benefit UND and hands out extensions like candy

UND1983
14 minutes ago, MinnDak said: Defense is awful. Zero pressure on the ball. For f sakes other teams have no problem getting pressure on our QB and RB. Zero pass coverage. I feel like the linebackers are generally a strong presence but working as a unit is non existent. 90 and 93 seem to stuff the middle on the D line. The rest look like decent 220# high school defensive ends. Can someone please make a play? Offense: QB1 is obvious. The O line is awful and 14,20, 28, 29 have made them look good all year. We simply need bigger and stronger on both lines. Amazing one tight end throw today. Receivers seem good I would say but if you drop an easy ball it’s next man up. There is not a single player on this team challenged for their spot. There is 3-4 players not playing on both sides that the whole team knows need to be playing. Penalties screwed us but we didn’t do anything to over come other than the nice punt return by Bo. Next game: Defense please find someone hungry to get to the ball. Offense if we don’t get it done in first half we better see #11 and company trot out the second half for the rest of the year. Off the top of my head, Portland State is the only road win I can remember over a team that finished above 500. On the bright side, if bubba won today there is no telling how long Chavez would have extended him for. Why isn't there more pressure on Chaves to demand excellence in our programs? 1
ND-fan
The game went the way. I expected with opening drives where we came out with standard run up the middle for first two plays setting up Bison defense having to just fill the gaps to stop us and then playing a good pass defense keep everyone in front of them denying pass 7 to 9 yards. I don’t know why we didn’t come out with Romfo rolling out with pass option and if not with running ball or option to back to run the ball. This would have spread SU defense and it would have been something they would have not been totally prepared. Second we hit Quincy for nice gain but never came back to our tight ends and this has been happening all year. I still think we need another option at receiver like Deng to help Bo and Dennis get open. Even if he doesn’t get open his speed and size would require defense have to cover him and if they don’t he could be wide open for deep threat. Und reasons for loosing on the road so much is we put together game plan only plays to our strengths but is predictable and teams prepare for to stop. This is Bubbas down fall he needs to take some risk on the road especially when he is playing top valley conference this is why we only have road wins bottom of the conference. I can think of several games like this like USD game last year where we got up but played so conservative where we final lost game with not doing anything second half. Bubba likes to play percentages if controll the ball and don’t make any mistakes you should win the game. It’s. Like the NFL when teams go into prevent defense and teams start moving ball game gets close and they loose instead of what got them lead and be in position of winning game easily. This has been UND’s weakenes and I believe Bubba believes if he took higher risks would maybe lead to his dismissal instead he maintains consistent record year after year but will he ever climb mountain that is big question. SDSU coach steglemeier finally put together team that won it all both of them come from same school of thought and retired after that both him and Bubba built programs from ground up and also worked on facilities and getting support for the programs.
