That’s also a reason when, all else is equal, many coaches choose the multi sport athlete over the hockey only kid. There is a higher upside to the multi sport kid once he focuses on one sport. Studies show single sport athletes peak earlier than multi sport athletes in addition to being more prone to injuries.

Kids can also get burned out on hockey and quit because they don't enjoy playing anymore.

This exact idea is another reason why I think seeing BU in April would be as terrifying as seeing Minnesota. Everyone on that young team will be better by then. Celebrini has only been playing college puck for 4 weeks and has more than a point per game. I don't want to see him when it's been 5 months worth... 

 

But then again I think Justen Close is more likely to steal a game for MN that Caron is for BU.

I don't think Caron is likely to steal any games, Close will be in the Richter hunt and maybe Hobey. Persson will be too if he keeps playing like he has so far.

Caron looked shaky to me, left a ton of rebounds and got beat high quite a bit

I wasn't impressed with him at all. If there's a weak link on their team, it's their goalie.

Definitely. And as InHeavenThereIsNoBeer said, there were a lot of rebounds to be had. But there weren't a lot of UND players in position to put them in the net.

1. He got beat high because we were shooting from the perimeter; and 
2. None of those rebounds were pounded in because we were lacking net-front presence. 

We need to establish "garbage collection" in front. We started last season with the same issue. Someone needs to decide to play in bloody nose alley.

For years haven’t figured how to wrap my head around how a dive can be a penalty on the other guy? Appreciate the explanations

Diving is now part of the game even if we don't like it. Brad put out an article a while back where the worst thing that will happen if you dive is get a penalty along with the other guy. They don't call just diving and until they do it will still happen.

I wouldn’t say Perron and gabers goals were from the perimeter. He got beat clean over the shoulder and wasn’t particularly close to getting a piece.

Anyone else annoyed by the fact we are calling this weekend a split.  3x3 ot wins are worth little more that a tie.  They are only worth 55% of a win.  Basically a loss and a tie on the weekend.  Not real impressive.  Blew a 2 goal lead and a late 3rd period lead.  This team has the right to get better, but this was not a good weekend.

No, but we didn't split.  It's barely better than the shoot out win Mankato got the weekend before.

I'm pretty ignorant, but I'd call last weekend's performance good.   They more than matched a loaded team on their ice.

Mankato's shootout "win" the weekend before was literally worth ZERO (the game officially goes down as a tie, a 50-50 split). Our OT win last Saturday night was worth 55% (a 55-45 split in our favor). That 5% doesn't seem like much until you remember when the Goofs missed the tournament by .0001 in the PWR a few years back. It could also make the difference between a higher or lower seed. Not that I want to have to rely on that come March, but you never know if it will be significant until Selection Sunday rolls around.

I'll enjoy the season.  OT win is worth 55%, not 67%.  Either way it is not a split.  IMO a good weekend is a sweep at home and split on the road.  That should be the standard of a team looking to win a National Championship.  National Championship should be the goal every year for a UND team.  Like I said they have the right to improve and I expect they will with 8 new defensemen.  Goaltender looks like a great pick-up. 

Only real point is this was not a split.  As Saturday was 55% of a win.
