Similarly I asked Brad what happens to all the host cities for this year's tournament. Nobody hosted. Do they put down any money that was lost? Would they consider pushing all hosts back a year and having a do over or is it just to bad, bid again?

Is UND supposed to be a host school again next year?

Kierstad- might strike while the iron is hot...JBD to me is in the Oshie spot after year 2 (probably could go and succeed, but not screaming I'm too good for college hockey)...MIsmash- not ready, but Nashville will likely want to sign him to avoid the risk of him becoming a free agent next year...

Agreed. When folks were bringing up Kiersted as a flight risk prior to the start of the season I thought they were crazy.  He had been solid but not dominant.  I was a bit wrong on him.  He wasn’t dominant this year either...played on a super good team.  But, his numbers are very solid for a dman and he may have graduated already or is very close.  I too could see him leaving unless he really wants to come back.

JBD- total toss up. Was a really good dman.  I thought he lost a step post WJC but still really solid. Given his age, and if he were my son, I’d try and talk him into one more year.  Confidence year to try and put up big numbers and get a ton of playing time in all situations.  Sign at the end of the year and get some NHL games in.

Mismash - No way.  I mean, I’m not saying the Preds won’t sign him, but he’s no where near ready.  Has the skill but there is a ton he needs to improve on.  He’s definitely not a bottom six forward and his college numbers have never been that good. He’s the type of player that may disappear if he leaves now...the A would be tough for him next year.  Best case for him is that he stays for his senior year and has a super big year. Gets a ton of confidence and rides that into an NHL contract.

I think Mismash's only shot is to try and become a Matt Cullen type player.  He is not going to light up the NHL. He needs to find something he can excel at.  Not saying he isn't a really nice player, but Danny Kristo didn't make it...Mash needs to look at how he can become a specialty situation player- a pk specialist or something.  Otherwise he is just another one of many that is better than 98% of hockey players, but not in the NHL.  He should find that part of his game at UND...not in the AHL...

Aren't many Matt Cullen's that have come thru the NHL. He could play on any line....top 6 or bottom 6 center or forward. Was great on the PK. No disrespect to Mismash but what I described briefly about Matt's lengthy NHL career Grant can't even do at the college level.

Great point on Kristo.

Only thing I can think of is that if the coaching staff already knows that one or both of JBD and Kierstad are coming back and JT knows as well.
Then with Sanderson and Kleven coming in too, he doesn't want to get put in the same situation of sitting again next season.

Right. Hate to see the #48 pick in the draft leave for another college after two years. But maybe with those who are staying and those coming in, playing time could be tight next year.  I’m hoping this is a sign Kierstad and JBD are back.

You would have to think it’s a good sign that one or both of those two would be coming back.

Really unfortunate deal. I really feel like Tychonick progressively got better as the season went on. Honestly, as I said during one of the game threads, I wouldn’t blame him if he decided to look elsewhere for playing time.

Now if he transfers to Duluth or Denver....

Hoping he isn’t going somewhere in the NCHC.

That'd be kind of a slap in the face to Berry and Co after they signed the waiver to release him from the sitting period.
"Hey coach, thanks for signing that...let me go and play next year for one of your big league rivals."

Best of luck to him in the future, but that wouldn't sit right if he just ends up at another NCHC school next season.

Not a fan of that mentality from a player though. Your a high end draft pick, with big talent coming in behind you, but you’ve got the experience. Earn your damn spot and solidify it. Elevate your game. Hoping he isn’t going somewhere in the NCHC.

The article says he hopes to get a release from Berry to play immediately. No conference opponents or rivals/future non-conference opponents if that's the case.

EDIT: maybe I misread it, was the waiver agreed upon, or just requested?

Berry signed the release.

He said head coach Brad Berry signed a release in hopes that the NCAA would waive the one-year, sitting-out period.

Good luck to Johnny moving forward, the talent he has is evident and I would say more likely than not he's going to turn out to be a fantastic college player wherever he lands. No inside information, but I would be mindful talking about a players mentality / not being willing to fight for playing time. Not saying this wasn't a mutual decision, but it wouldn't surprise me if it wasn't slightly slanted one direction (coach staff).

Why? It's apparent that there are three Defensive recruits coming in this year no matter what. At an absolute minimum. Sanderson - Kleven - Moore or Miller. As others have said, this means that either JBD / Kierstad will be back, potentially both.
