wxman91
6 hours ago, yzerman19 said: The core tenets of the ACA were capping payer profit on fully insured products, guaranteeing coverage with pre-existing conditions, setting minimum benefit requirements, establishing a public marketplace, and mandating coverage. Esoterically, they facilitated these things with actuarial requirements which I won’t get into. You can argue the cost/benefit of each one and it’s importance by region. For example, Minnesota already had guaranteed coverage via a high-risk pool. Funded by a premium tax. Coverage mandate and minimum benefits impacted consumer choice and premium pricing (More benefits, more expensive coverage). MLR- well 2/3 of the market is self-insured or Medicare. I don’t want to subsidize rural hospitals more, I just don’t want them to shut down. They are employment and economic drivers as well as their role in providing care. I don’t want to wait in line for months or drive 400 miles for a knee scope. Do you know what drives health related bankruptcies in this country? Hint: it isn’t the medical bills. It’s all the other bills that pile up when a person is hospitalized and can’t work. The indigent have care and coverage via Medicaid- they have for decades. The elderly have it from Medicare. Commercial plans have maximum out of pocket amounts. If you aren’t breaking the individual mandate, then who doesn’t have coverage? The debate here has never been about healthcare, it’s about who pays for it. the system isn’t perfect, but it’s far better than politicos give it credit for. If you get really sick is there another country you’d rather receive care in? I wouldn’t. The margins in healthcare and health insurance are tiny. The industry employs tons of people all over the income spectrum- high school educated single moms working the call centers all the way to sub-specialist surgical MDs. Thank you for the reply. Prior to the ACA 46M people were uninsured. Currently, that number is around 28M. There are a variety of reasons for this, but the majority is the cost for coverage for those above the Medicaid limit is not realistic even with subsidies. For rural hospitals, if a market solution is that there isn't enough demand to keep them around, should they exist? I'm fine with subsidizing them to make sure that people have realistic access to health care, but there has to be acknowledgement of the government's role. I would note that of the rural hospital closures since 2010, a large majority have been in states that have refused Medicaid expansion.

UND1983
ACA is an issue for prescription drugs IIRC. My uncle pharmacist tried to explain to me why the price was so high for a drug. Cant quite remember why but caps were lifted on pricing for certain classes I believe. Maybe somebody on here could clarify? I just remember being stunned by the price. The one question he did agree on is what had been stated here many times, most vulnerable stay at home and least at risk get back to work and school. Kab
Serious question so the nfl is going to play the black national anthem at some games i didn’t know they had one, guess that’s my fault what would happen if there was a white national anthem and would they let that be played this is going to far we have one nation for every citizen, one national anthem maybe best to not play anything and just play the damn games

Goon
Too many people in Chicago are dying from gun fire. My question is, don't their lives matter? Children are being murdered in cold blood. Quote CHICAGO (CBS) — Nearly 80 people have been shot in Chicago since Friday night this July 4th holiday weekend, and 15 of them have been killed. Twelve of the weekend shooting victims were under age 18. Two of the 12 were killed. Among the incidents were a shooting that left a 7-year-old girl dead while she was visiting her grandmother for a 4th of July party in South Austin Saturday night, and two mass shootings – one of which left four people dead and four more wounded. Around 7:02 p.m. Saturday, Natalia Wallace, 7, was shot in the forehead as she and other children played in the yard in the 100 block of North Latrobe Avenue. She was taken to Stroger Hospital of Cook County where she later died, police said. Natalia was on the sidewalk when a light-colored vehicle pulled up and an unknown number of people exited. Those people then took out guns and fired shots her direction, police said.
