I didn't think that's usually what happens at press conferences....could be wrong though. Maybe it's just "national search...interim coach." Or maybe the contract details were just finally worked out and that's why Fruechte was added? Stay Tuned... Quote

Cratter Posted December 2 Posted December 2 I asked the program, the Red River High School graduate, helped build. It gave me this answer about tomorrow presser: Quote Considering the context and typical practices in collegiate athletics, it's probable—that the upcoming press conference will serve to announce the new head coach. Such events are standard for introducing new leadership, providing insights into the selection process, and outlining future plans for the program. While some information may have been previously disclosed, the press conference offers a platform for direct interaction with the new coach and athletic department officials, often revealing new details and allowing for media questions. Take it with a grain of salt though.... Quote

We still badly want your skills at our university And I'm working closely with the AD to have a smooth successful transition to a new head coach I'm sure you'll enjoy playing for. In the meantime, I'll still be around, and feel free to call me anytime if you have anything you want to talk about." Cratter for AD 2025! Slightly worse is "Hey, Coach Fruechte here, interim HC. I will be let go in a matter of days or weeks when the new HC is hired, but this place has been very special to me......these past 10 months." 2 Quote
Cratter Posted December 2 Posted December 2 Tomorrow's press conference could also be the introduction of what the search committee looks like, who's on it, timeframe, etc... Quote

Instead it's your mom's new boyfriend who calls you? The guy, who mom calls "temporary", that could be gone in a week? Normally, when coaches are let go, you cut the cord. I don’t know how all of this will play out so I don’t know why announcement was made yesterday. 1 Quote

Checks boxes: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vince_Kehres https://utrockets.com/sports/football/roster/coaches/vince-kehres/1283 Don't know where you came up with this name, but he would appear to be a strong candidate, what with his strong track record as a DC and spending years as a player and then as a successful DC at a program with a winning culture plus plus. Only negative would be that he's probably not familiar with our recruiting footprint (N. Dak., Minn., Wisc.). However, he could hire/retain position coaches that are familiar with our recruiting footprint. Plus, he would potentially add the Ohio footprint to our recruiting efforts. Quote
Cratter Posted December 2 Posted December 2 Took NDSU a week to announce Entz was leaving to announcing a new coach. UND can go the route when Muss was fired and do a long drawn out process and make Chuck the pigskin guy national news again... Or go the NDSU route and announce Fruechte as coach tomorrow. Which will it be? Place your bets! Quote

So UND will announce long drawn out process like when Muss was fired and Chuck the pigskin guy became national news....or the NDSU route and Fruechte is announced. Place your bets. The only pressing issue right now in addition to getting head coach and new staff hired is signing the recruits, end of year meetings, and maintaining communication with recruits and players. You and Gundy make good points. Bubba needs to communicate with the recruits but someone on the staff needs to also organize Wed signing day and help present staff and team hold things together, find new jobs etc. Bubba could help especially with staff transition. 1 Quote

Cratter Posted December 2 Posted December 2 Who did NDSU go get to help turn their program around.... In the early 2000s when they couldn't beat UND? A guy who was the defensive coordinator at a Big Ten program and a part of two National Championships with that same team before leaving for NDSU. Quote
Cratter Posted December 2 Posted December 2 Fruechte and Mussmans credentials are pretty similar: Played ball at Big Ten school OC at a MN d2 school Right Before joining UND as OC. Will the next chapter be the same? UND OC directly to UND Head Coach in their 30s? Quote

UND-FB-FAN Posted December 2 Posted December 2 The overall body of work for UND as a playoff eligible division I program - from 2012 to 2024 - has been overall disappointing. Is it so hard to hire a head coach that has not been apart of these years of mediocrity? No to Schmidt. No to Freund. No to Fruechte. No to Luke Schleusner. Bring someone new to this region and give them a chance to elevate UND to unprecedented heights. Give UND football a fresh new chance. Let’s see what happens, but even this forum is a microcosm of how folks from UND and Grand Forks have a hard thinking outside the box (program). 4 Quote
