Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't North Dakota also have a chance at beating 130 RPI Omaha in this tournament?  If NDSU is "lucky" to have had the opportunity to play such a poor team, what's your excuse for the Fighting Hawks blowing the exact same opportunity?  Surely you can do better than "Crandall left."

Never said there was an excuse.  We suck, just like pretty much everyone in our conference.  They are lucky that our conference sucks.

Not sure about everyone else, but I would have loved to tune in next Thursday to watch a sucky UND team play in the opening round of the tournament.

You’d miss the game, because UND would play on Tuesday or Wednesday when the extra 16 seeds play.

I think even the sucky NDSU team will be in the play in game.   No Thursday for them either

I don't count those as part of the tournament and I was projecting UND to win that Tuesday or Wednesday game anyways.  :D

Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure Pickens makes plenty of decisions down there, but they are viewed as positive decisions helping the university! Not the same perception the Engelstad family shadow falls on und! One only needs to look at this message board to see that.

The posters here are mostly appreciative of The Gift, it's the jealous You and your Troll buddies who are not. Please move on, you add nothing here.

I think NDSU will be favored in any playoff game and gain $1.7 for the Summit.

Does anybody know? Does the conference got the whole 1.7mil or is it split half conference half school? I know the first year year NDSU made it the conference got it all, but I thought that was just for the first year they were eligible.

All tournament credits are split equally between the schools.

It’s split over five years as an annuity, so the immediate increase in payout won’t happen til next year.  Of course, the other four years are also split, so it appears the Summit is getting near the $1.7 for this year, but that is the last five years payment.  NDSU’s win over Oklahoma also gave the Summit an additional credit, but that’s almost expired.  The payments go up each year of this current contract.

Some conferences reward schools for winning.  The Atlantic 10 gives big chunks to the school that did the winning as a annuity so winning NCAA tournament games becomes so much of a priority.  Most presidents and AD’s want a steady and sure source of income for their athletic programs.

The Summit has always been a socialist conference to my knowledge.  Show me a link where that wasn’t done.  Granted, NDSU received free publicity, got all expenses paid that the NCAA allows (charter, hotels, meals)  and likely saw a big increase in merchandise sales, but most conferences share dance revenues evenly.

The only was that NDSU could get the full value to itself if it withdraws from the Summit League, thereby destroying the SL autobid.  If a conference loses its autobid, the payments revert to the school that earned them.

Not really, did you watch it?  UND had it down to 7 (IIRC) in the 2nd half at one point.  That isn't getting destroyed.

I did, and it was a blast to watch. And I would trade places with NDSU in a second. My point being it’s irritating when people are dismissive of NDSU coming out of the Summit. I will by no means be rooting for any success from them, but congratulations to them on getting there.

Hi anyone reading, the first four is part of the NCAA Tourney 100 percent. Just because most bracket pools do not utilize it does not mean it doesnt count. They all do. For NDSU's seniors W or L, they made the tourney 100 percent, they just had to play 1 extra game before 1v16 is all it means if they win.. if not its still the tourney.

Remember that time ndsu beat number five seed Oklahoma Darryls?

Little different animal than that, but I'll safely say if they pull it off its the greatest athletic feat a North Dakota team has pulled off and nothing would top it.  It would trump any national title.

Besides Oklahoma was grossly overseeded that year :p

Really, what’s the downside in being on the national stage with Duke for a couple hours. There isn’t one!!!

And if they can get by NC Central and play Duke Friday in prime time, they will be on CBS with Jim Nantz, Bill Rafferty and Grant Hill. That is a pretty big deal. And there is a small chance they can keep it interesting for half of a half or so. Everybody they put on the floor can make a three, so if they are on they may be able to stay close for a little while.
