Students Spearhead Effort for Fighting Hawks Mascot

Why not name it "Cetan" (pronounced chay-tahn) and call it "Chay" for short. (Sorry Mr. Genoway, or do we have to get his approval? So confusing ... )

Or would we be naughty for using the Lakota word for "hawk" to name the mascot.  ;)

PS -- "Kicizapi Cetan" is "Fighting Hawks"

Just bought at Hugo's in GF

I must admit, I like the Bison Crunch better ... as far as ice cream goes.

Thought they'd sand do something that was actually clever like photoshopping some "Texas Hook'em Horns" on ol' Mike. Guess I gave them too much credit.

WHAT?  THAT'S IT?  I was expecting the hawk to be giving a buffalo a BJ circa 1970's/1980's.

I thought the mascot looked good, dancing with the crowd interacting with kids. Now the question is....can he do push-ups after points like Bunning used to do. Of course with our offense it wouldn’t be much of a challenge.

Mascot Info- The Fighting Hawk

A recent arrival to our Grand Forks campus has North Dakota school spirit soaring sky high. Our Fighting Hawk was migrating north when it spied the perfect perch on top of The Ralph. Scanning the locale, the bright green hawk was instantly impressed by the determination and resiliency of University of North Dakota students and athletic teams. Raptors use that same intense determination when stalking their prey and so The Fighting Hawk developed an instant bond with everything North Dakota… and forever pledging lifelong loyalty to our alma mater. Just like the North Dakota faithful, this is one tough and hard-working bird who is ready to team up with all of us to continue building our championship legacy. So, whether on the ice, court or field… the new mascot is prepared to cheer our student-athletes onto victory and see to it that we soar above each and every opponent!
