You'll note that I did not advocate for keeping any coach or assistant. But you damn well cannot ignore the market when it comes time to hire their replacements. UND MBB is poorly coached and one can look at the salaries being around half that of our peers as a good indicator of why. If we cut the women's hockey coach's pay what's that coach gonna do? Leave to coach a high school girls team? Would anyone care if he did?UND has been ignoring the market on basketball for a while now. If we are only going to do this once during his tenure, I have no problem with throwing all the options out on the table. To me one of the following 3 things will happen that I classify as major: 1) Women's Hockey is dropped 2) Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving, Softball, and Women's Soccer all get the axe 3) We switch conference affiliation Personally, I don't think we switch conferences as there is a lot of value in being in a strong and stable conference that offers football along with the rest of our core sports. The Big Sky also fits our school from an academic standpoint. Right now my gut says option 2 is probably what will happen but only time will tell. He decides who decides who's on that committee. Here's a crazy thought. The athletic department doesn't even need to make any cuts. It's just a front. If we want to be competitive with sports like Basketball and football, then we need to offer competitive wage. Cut the non-core sports and let us properly fund some of these programs. Probably be at or very close to the minimum number of sports a school has to offer. Oh boy then there will be no "savings account" like there is now by cutting sports....what would UND do? Would you put faith in the financial responsibility of an Athletic Director running a million dollar plus deficit tha commits to close to another million dollar expense in FCOA the day after a rival announces they are going to provide FCOA without any plan of how to pay for it?
