Teeder11 Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 how does ndsu get a 201 rpi with one win and fifteen losses? Strength of schedule, strength of conference, past performance, potential for growth... I don't know... just spit balling here. Quote
jdub27 Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 Strength of schedule, strength of conference, past performance, potential for growth... I don't know... just spit balling here. Mainly the first one with RPI. From Wikipedia: In its current formulation, the index comprises a team's winning percentage (25%), its opponents' winning percentage (50%), and the winning percentage of those opponents' opponents (25%). The opponents' winning percentage and the winning percentage of those opponents' opponents both comprise the strength of schedule (SOS). Thus, the SOS accounts for 75% of the RPI calculation and is 2/3 its opponents' winning percentage and 1/3 its opponents' opponents' winning percentage. Also why playing a strong non-conference schedule in sports like volleyball and basketball is very important whether you win or lose. NDSU's MBB is a good example of this last year. Quote
SiouxVolley Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 UND is significantly underrated or the RPI is assigning UND a significant home court advantage. NDSU has an advantage in that last years ratings have an effect until the last game. Also, UND played horribly in the MTSU tournament - as they hadn't jelled as a team. Must have lost their composure as they could have won vs MTSU, UAB, and Austin Peay. Pioske has emerged as a star since that time. The USD game was part of the Tulane trip, so they were travel weary. USD had trouble with NDSU, so they can not be that good. Think Hardee is somewhat concerned about future years, so he's balanced playing Sr/JR (Ulrich, Kreuger) with better freshman sophomore who initially made more mistakes (Pioske, Thompson, Hart) If UND had won at least three games vs UAB, Austin Peay, MTSU, and USD, their rating would have been higher. The good thing is the Big Sky Championship is all the matters for this team. NAU and PSU are the real challengers for the BIg Sky crown that have not been faced yet. Quote
SiouxVolley Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 In the past, the moderators had promised a section to each sport that attains 1000 in attendance. Women's hockey reached that milestone two seasons ago and its time volleyball emerges from other sports and gains its own section. Quote

I always enjoyed playing a little sand volleyball over being a spectator but when the game is played at a high level it is very fun to watch. This team deserves more coverage for sure. Quote
SiouxFan100 Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 I would like to see a women's volleyball section. Quote
Cratter Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 Once they make the tournament I see them getting their own section. Quote
Cratter Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 Women's Volleyball could surpass Women's basketball ( cause Brewster sucks) as UNDs #4 sport. Quote
SIOUXFAN97 Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 how does ndsu get a 201 rpi with one win and fifteen losses? pollsters got them confused with und. again. Quote
Sioux04 Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 This team needs their own page on ss.com I was thinking the same thing! Quote
SiouxVolley Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 Please come or watch Tonight vs EWU &00 Satuday, 12:00 Noon vs Portland St Sat could decide the Big Sky Championship Quote
SiouxFan100 Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 Thinking of coming up for the vb game Saturday. Haven't ever been to one at UND. Then head to the fb game. Where do you park at the Betty? Quote

Where do you park at the Betty? I'm guessing due to the hockey game Saturday night they'll have people out in the lot directing parking for the volleyball game. Quote

Park of the north side of the Betty. They open up the north doors after the game so its an easy walk. Quote
Teeder11 Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 I notice Chandler Spearman has not been on the roster since the beginning of the year. She was a good young hitter. Best wishes to her in whatever she is doing now. Competition must have been tough. Quote
forksandspoons Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 looks like a good crowd at the betty from what i can tell on bigskytv... anyone have word on the attendance? Quote
nodakvindy Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 UND wins 3-0. 100th win at UND for Coach Hardee. Quote
Teeder11 Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 Nice win tonight. Got to be sharper Saturday against Portland. Quote
Teeder11 Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 1-1 at the break in Greeley. PSU took set one and UNC rallied back to take set two 25-19. Quote
Dustin Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 Agreed about being sharper. Some, but not all, was the fact that Hardee used several reserves tonight. I'm sure he'll stick with his main 8or9 girls on Saturday, but they will have to be on their game. Should be a great showcase of college volleyball on Saturday. Quote
Teeder11 Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 PSU takes it from UNC 3-1.... sets up for a big battle at the Betty on Saturday! Quote
