What did someone say, one of them was actually a UND student. There's nothing the University can do. They can have classes on Diversity Sensitivity. I am not sure what people think the response from the Administration should be? This isn't a UND sponsored event. The newpaper articles and liberal blogs don't even seem to be very accurate in their reporting of the incident. A lot of the news articles are calling this a UND even, it's not. Let's not let facts get in the way of a good argument. I am not excusing this, it's bad. I talked to a parent of one of the students that wore a shirt. She has gotten death threats. That's unacceptable too.

This one is interesting, it admits that the event was organized by Rhombus Guy's. But is upset that the university isn't conducting an investigation...

The event is organized in a city park by local eatery Rhombus Guys Pizza and co-owner Matt Winjum said even though he was out serving pizza all day, he didn't see any offensive shirts.

There was no mention of any investigation or consequences in Kelley's statement and senior Damien Webster, an Indian Studies major, said he thinks university administration is allowing "open mockery" of Indian students.

I'm good friends with most of these people, in fact one of them is my best friend and she's been threatened so much she's scared to leave her house. She left a huge apology on Twitter and Facebook last night but had to delete both due to the amount of death threats she was receiving. The logo (which I personally think is the only bad part of the shirts) was designed by Custom Ink, not them. AFTER seeing how the shirts turned out they knew it wasn't a good idea to wear them anywhere else so they put them on in the morning, off-campus where they lived, and took some pictures together. They didn't wear them around and flaunt them in public. It was never their intention to offend anyone, it was college kids trying to make a fun shirt for Spring Fest while hanging out with each other. None of them are even remotely racist, in fact a few of them are part native.

Let's just say that they've learned from it and they're beyond sorry. They've told me that it was a dumb mistake and that they had no idea anything like this would happen. There were actually a lot of kids on campus wearing very similar shirts that obviously aren't in the news at all. Never would have guessed it would be smarter to wear them in public than at your own place haha.

I think the death threats are a bit outrageous, and with any luck all of those people will be arrested and prosecuted since all the messages are being handed over to police and most of them include the real names and everything of the people. I did spend all afternoon/night with them during spring fest, just not the morning while they were wearing the shirts, so if there are things you'd like to ask I might be able to answer them, but obviously I can't answer everything.

This was NOT his twitter account. He deleted his on Sunday morning. This was someone who set up an impersonation account which is why the account is now banned.

The Blackhawks are named after a military unit named after a native, and the logo is the only native imagery they use. No dancing indians on the ice before the game, no warpaint, mascots, etc. The difference is night and day.

The calls to end the Fighting Sioux nickname and logo existed when the logo was the same as Chicago's. I'm comparing UND's Blackhawk to Chicago's...one can't be offensive while the other is an honor since they are the exact same thing.

UND can only enforce what they have power over - advising employees that they shouldn't wear logo wear to work (check). I don't even see how they could prevent someone from wearing it to a concert or a play on campus - they could try but the actual enforcement would be a nightmare. Do you reall think The Ralph would go anywhere near a policy like that - no way - the already told the NCAA they weren't going to remove permanent logoes and The Ralph is privately owned. Tailgating at a football game - can you see campus police coming up to someone and telling them to change their shirt? What about if I park my vehicle near campus and take a walk across campus with a Fighting Sioux shirt on - are they going to jump out of the bushes and escort me off campus? It's just not enforceable. What about shirts that just say "Sioux Pride" or "Once a Sioux always a Sioux" are they going to set up a committee to decide what shirts are acceptable?

I agree. The only way to diffuse this now is to get a new nickname in a very timely manner.

I'll still wear my Sioux gear, but now I believe it's time to get the nickname. The sooner, the better.

Several months ago, one of the leading proponents of the nickname, Frank Burggraf, contacted me, through one of my relatives who supports the nickname. Frank and I had more than a dozen text conversations before he revealed his true purpose for getting in touch with me. He was really confident that “they” could restore the racist nickname, but he wanted me to help them. Quite simply, he wanted me to switch sides. He promised me a professorship at UND if I switched sides, where I could teach Dakota culture; he offered to take my family to a hockey game.

And now an explosive charge of a professorship at UND being offered in exchange for a viewpoint change? Here's comes a UND investigation.

So, does UND sit and wait another 5, 10, 15, maybe 20 years before the die-hard alumni who wear Sioux jerseys just fade away into oblivion? Or does UND take a new, dramatic step of cutting the snake off at the head and banning the display and wearing of Sioux jerseys or t-shirts at sporting events?

Will you be in the "I'll never attend another game at UND if that happens" crowd and burn your season tickets? Or will you suck it up and find something else to wear to the game when the football team is 8-0 and ranked #1 in the country heading into a home game against the Bison, the women's basketball team is hosting a conference championship game, or the hockey team is on a 15-game home winning streak and Minnesota comes to town? Are you going to stay away based on loyalty to a dead nickname and logo?

But these weren't UND students...doesn't matter. That's what EVERYONE believes now. The genie is out of the bottle.

I'll say it again (and again and again and again)...the truth absolutely does not matter. This story is making national and even world headlines...and you think Kelley's short statement released the other day is going to appease the mob? It's not.
