Popular Post Teeder11 Posted August 6, 2012 Popular Post Posted August 6, 2012 Thoughts and happenings from the weekend practices: Saturday: Zach Oliver showed amazing hands and feet on a one-handed snag on an out pattern. Baylee Carr was back on the field practicing after sitting out on Friday opening day practice. This is not a dig on Hendrickson as much as it is a comment on Mollberg's abilties: But there appears to be less of a drop-off in skill between Hanson and Mollberg than between Hanson and Hendrickson. Still Hendrickson is improving his play each practice. He's a better runnner than Hanson, so it should not surprise that he has a tendency to get happier feet, tuck the ball in and head north. Hanson and Hardin are developing good chemistry, but Hanson and Tyree seem to have an even better comfort level in the making. That connection could be one to watch this year. For the future: "Mollberg to Golladay" is something you could be hearing a lot of. One gig on Mollberg is that, at this point, he tends to telegraph his passes. He'll learn. Jake Miller is fast as ever. Mitch Sutton looks leaner than I remember from past years. Still a bruiser. The middle linebacker play has been exceptional so far, highlighted by Garrison Goodman with an INT and batted down pass on Saturday. Big Ben Peters had an INT as well. McGill will be ready for first game. Despite a bum hammy, he was doing conditioning drills like running up and down the stadium steps and sprinting in place and pivoting. The offense has not done much for deep passing plays so far, sticking with a lot of screen stuff to receivers and full backs. Saturday was capped off by a 35-yard connection from Hanson to J. Jackson for a TD. Don't know if you'll be seeing this one too much on Saturdays, or who knows, but there was a double-hook-and lateral sighting involving Hanson-Harden-Tyree-Jake Miller on Saturday. It went for 6. Sunday: Teams donned shells for the first time this year. It's looking more and more like #1 passing offense is Hanson, Hardin, Jameer Jackson and Tyree. #2 is Hendrickson, Casey Young, Jon Heimler, Pat Brown. #3/4 is Mollberg, Z. Oliver, Golladay, Fletcher. McGill will have to fit in there somewhere eventually. Holy Cow! I forgot about Blair Townsend... he fits in there somwhere in the #1 or #2 offense. Can you say embarrassment of riches at receiver? Hanson's ball is straight, crisp with not much arc. Sometimes it appears too low for the receiver, like it's going to hit their feet, but it gets to them with such velocity that it hits them in a spot where only they can catch it. He has, however, shown the ability to put it in the air on rare deep routes. Mollberg's ball is more finesse, though equally crisp, with a tight spiral and a little more arc. Offensive star: Jameer Jackson had a great receiving day.. he has good hands, he's strong and racks up the YAC. Defensive star: Daryl Brown showed flashes of why the CBs could be much improved this year. His break on the ball is the quickest I've ever seen at UND. He had a pick 6 on Sunday that was so fast he was half way to the end zone before the receiver knew what was going on. Spencer Cummings fell to the turf on one of the the final plays of practice on Sunday after some heavy contact along the sidelines on a pass play. Don't know if it was cramps or something a little more serious. Coach Muss was aubibly irate at some of the un-smart overly physical contact that was happening toward the end of Sunday practice. The Cummings ordeal was a product of some of this kind of play. That's it. I am excited for Media Day! 10 Quote
homer Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 Great update Teeder. I love hearing the great posts about our offense. Its early but in years past all we have read about at the beginning of camp has been how good our defense has looked. Reading all this about our offense is a very good thing or a sign of things to come for the D. Exciting year ahead. Quote
UND Fan Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 Another in-depth summary - keep them coming, Teeder! Thanks! Quote
Let'sGoHawks! Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 This is way better than anything UND or heaven forbid the GF Herald is putting out, thanks again Teeder! 4 Quote
geaux_sioux Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 What are the times for practices this week? What time is the scrimmage next Saturday? 915 am every day and sometime in the afternoon around 3 sometimes Quote
southpaw Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 I already like the new green of the helmets. The green and black looks crisp even on the practice jerseys. Quote
Siouxperfan7 Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 I already like the new green of the helmets. The green and black looks crisp even on the practice jerseys. Wonder when they will unveil the new home blacks? Possibly today at media day? The week of the game? Or will we have to wait till they come out of the tunnel to see them?!! Quote
Teeder11 Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 I'm told that they will be in green today at media day. The suspense thickens. Quote

UNDColorado Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 Anyone know when when links will be posted in regard to media day? Quote

fightingsioux4life Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 I hope that the same people that are thinking FCS playoffs this season don't start calling for Mussman's head if we get off to a 1-4 start. That being said......the team looks 100% better than it has in a long time and I am very much looking forward to the season starting. Quote
geaux_sioux Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 Ivory and Jackson dominated today. Especially Ivory. Great routes, diving catches, the whole bag. Pads should be coming on soon so we can actually see how the d and RBs look. 1 Quote

UND-FB-FAN Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 On the video at UNDsports.com for Media Day, Jack Michaels specifically mentioned the "black-out" game against Montana.................... Yeah, so I'd say it wouldn't be a particular blackout game if they wore them before Oct. 20th. The only chance we'll see the new blacks is if someone "leaks" an image (i.e. Twitter); otherwise, it'll be one of many factors used to get the Alerus excited and rocking when Montana comes to town, and we'll have to wait until then. 1 Quote

Agreed. I don't think they will wear them before that game. If it is gonna be a true "blackout" game, I would assume the team would be wearing the black pants as well!! I know that this is going to be an exciting season and every home game is gonna be great: But I haven't looked forward to a home game like this (Montana) probably since the 2003 game against the Bison!! If the old Alerus atmoshere is not back by then, it will deffinitely be back for that game!! I can imagine hearing a little "Back in BLack" intro with the lights out and having the team run out in their all black jerseys!! It will be the biggest game in our D1 history!! Anyone else getting goosebumps!!! 3 Quote
sioux24/7 Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 This has nothing to do with the 2012 season. It's an interview with RJ McGill when he was in high school. I just thought it was funny because he said he couldn't go to college in a cold environment. Did he have a down year his senior season to end up here? Quote

He might finally be getting that this season. Quote
geaux_sioux Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 I'm sure if the seniors want to wear the all blacks sooner than the Montana game they will. Quote
dakotadan Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 I've been so busy at work I haven't had much time to be on the internet. Could people post links to articles about camp when they come across them? I'd really appreciate it. Quote
