That this "letter to the editor" was written and signed by a group of NDSU employees makes it laughable.

Wow.  Unbelievable.

Just a note to these professors, it is North "Dakota" State University, so people could use those same derogatory terms against NDSU as well.  Now knowing that, are they going to propose changing the name of the state.  It is to the point where professors are so out of touch with the mainstream, that it detracts from their ability to teach facts rather than feeling.

From top to bottom the University of Agriculture is obsessed with the flagship school in Grand Forks.

I cannot wait until we have a new nickname and we don't have to deal with these issues anymore.

Exactly. Because without one, this will keep coming up. Only, it could come from entities that actually wield power.

Unreal that rival schools can have an effect on the nickname process. It was brought to my attention that the system should be a weighted vote.

Basically all North Dakota residents get one vote.

You get an additional vote for having attended UND,

You get an additional vote for having a degree from UND,

You get an additional vote for being a GF resident,

You get an additional vote for being a UND employee,

You get additional votes based on your donations to the institution.

I added you get a million votes for being a former hockey player (ok, this one might not be appropriate, but if we write it really small??)

I propose the following amendments

If they are all NDSU employees, then the next two questions should be: are any of them enrolled members of either the Spirit Lake or Standing Rock tribe? Or are they just another block of enlightened bleeding heart PC liberals?

Night Rider is racist?? I think David Hasselhoff and KITT would object.;)

If you have ever seen the Dave Chappelle show episode about 12 years ago about KITT you may change your mind. Also, Mr. Ed and Flipper were racist.

Want the problem with the NDSU faculty letter?

I can give it to you two-fold:

1. They have no idea that the Nokota breed of horse got its name from the state (North Dakota). Now if a horse by itself is "too Native American", can we pass off the Crusades as done by Native Americans (not the Christian church) because Crusaders rode horses? It makes about as much sense.

2. I'll let them show their ignorance themselves:

We recommend having a representative group of American Indian delegates meet with the task force early in the selection process.

Uh ... "early in the selection process" would be about ... three years ago

There's a huge difference between educated, knowledgeable, and smart. They've borne that out.

These eggheads missed a golden opportunity to call for the North Dakota and South Dakota to drop the "Dakota" lest some thin-skinned snob be offended.

Flames - can't be that, Native Americans used fire in their day to day life.
Roughriders - can't be that, Native Americans used to "ride" horses on "rough" terrain.
SunDogs - can't use that, the sun is a sacred symbol to Native Americans.
Badlanders - can't use that, Native American tribes used to live in the part of the Dakota's known as the Badlands

Etc, etc, etc........

Sadly enough, this is probably the reasoning that some of those Profs probably have!!
