Anyone know the history of “Hey! Baby” being their goal song?  Don’t get that or the closer walkout song to kick off their pp.

The goal song has been for two years now. The pp song has been since Mullett opened.

The team has left Homer out to dry too many times tonight though as well. With the amount of grade A’s and point blank chances UND gave ASU, yeah they’re going to score.

Why does the team play better for Spunar?

isn’t that a Wisconsin thing?

That’s the question isn’t it. The combo of that and Gibson being happy feet on ice, it is a nerve wracking watch.

Not sure they do. Spunar masks a lot of mistakes. Been around the game a long time, I’ve had more confidence in certain goalies, but have never changed an approach to a game based on which goalie is in net.

It’s like we went back to the first night against Duluth.  Just like with Duluth, you need to deny the cross ice passes, but we allowed it time and again.  How did we go from the defensive game last weekend to this?
Thought Keaton would have learned that throwing it up the center of the ice like he was criticized for in the World Juniors can possibly cost you a championship down the road.  Two more huge turnovers up the gut tonight.  Don’t want to be too critical of him, as even Emery almost got burned by leaving a guy totally alone in front of Homer to engage on the boards when everyone else was already there.  Lot of defensive breakdowns tonight.  Hopefully they can get back to how they played against Denver.
We won, which is great to say when you have an off night on the defensive side of things.

D zone structure has just gone up in smoke at times tonight.  Tons of grade A chances for ASU.

It’s been brutal. Very poor defensive play for most of the night and extremely frustrating down the stretch when leading 6-3. No excuses for giving up breakaways at that point. The defensive play must show improvement if they want to win 4 consecutive games in the tourney. The way they played defense tonight will end any tournament run. They have a realistic shot at #9 this year but only if they play well defensively.

Depth won this game…six different goal scorers make the Sioux tough to defend.  Clean up some of the stick penalties and bonehead plays in our own zone and Sioux are tough to beat.

Looked like Kernan just stuck his glove out in his face.

These announcers need to grow a pair, holy smokes.

Didn’t they change the rules this year where grabbing the facemask isn’t an automatic five?  If you watch that play, Kernan didn’t tug on it and actually tried to disengage.

The other huge callout has to be their response to giving up leads. We scored quick response goals at least twice tonight after getting punched in the mouth. Nice to be on that side of it for a change.

So Wiebe gives up a breakaway goal to make it 6-4, then when they are ahead 7-4 he remains down deep in the offensive end with only a couple minutes left.  All around bad night for the defense.

Excellent post. Well said.

I’d also add, having better situational awareness during that late power play. You know Waldron is going to be coming back onto the ice from the penalty box at any moment. Maybe the D or at least one of them pull back a little off the blue line to keep an eye on the guy looking to be sprung on a break away.
I know, easy for me to say watching from my couch but just an observation. The forwards too, maybe try just eating the puck in the ASU corner there as the penalty is winding down instead of being so aggressive. I won’t lie, I was pretty nervous when ASU cut it to 6-4. Had no idea how those last 3 minutes would play out.

Yeah. The team was playing super loose at times.

Would have loved to hear from Jackson on the postgame show on the radio.  Maybe he has more to say to his guys in a game like this which didn’t allow much time.
