Full disclosure....Jerry fan here. Still feels like last season was wasted sticking with Simon every snap but the eyeball test matters. Simon looked better in a half than Jerry did last month plus. UND is going to have to run the ball to win. Just need a QB to make a few throws and not turn it over. Simon needs to start.

Along with that, Jerry has been running the ball a lot lately. If the QB is running the ball that much, I’d rather it be Romfo.

Jerry stats:

First 8 games:  22 TD's, 2 INT's, 6-2 record

Last 5 games:  4 TD's, 8 INT's, 2-3 record

It is really amazing the sharp downturn Jerry had after starting out so great.  What's even crazier is that in those last 5 games, the 3 loses we were in every one of those games with an opportunity to win.

If Jerry plays, is he gonna be great, who knows.  If Simon gets the start will he be bad, who knows.  But I think no matter who plays doesn't have to take over the H>re's an idea, play both.  Take some heat off of each of them.

Now do the SOS of the last five games in comparison to the start.

We all know what Simon brings to the table, and also why Jerry got the early nod as QB1. I still think he got messed up vs. USD, but I digress.  With recent play, it's a toss-up for me. Play both; play the guy that the team is rallying around; play the guy that gets the W, I don't care. J-F-W.

As for Simon, his offense averaged 30.8 ppg last season. Not bad. The problem was that the defense gave up 30.9 ppg.   Alternatively, we went 34.8 vs 20.1 this regular season which gets highlighted in the W-L column. Big difference in offensive success? Maybe not as big as we thought.

Fair, but he still struggled against Murray St, so I'm not sure it was just a competition issue.

He slumped hard, but it also coincided with our toughest games against the Dakota schools.

I’m going back and forth if Simon would be a better start than Kamamski even if Jerry was healthy?  Jerry has been brutal the last month or more.  Simon has experience and is mobile enough to escape. Has the smarts and is extremely liked by his teammates .  Jerry looks rushed or timid….almost panicky recently .  Quite possibly injured?  Overall …I would prefer to have the first 8 games Jerry but we haven’t seen him comfortable in a long time.

The team seemed to unite and gel last Saturday with Simon in.  Could be many factors why that happened….however they outscored Tech 21-0 with Simon.

Tarleton doesn’t know who’s starting so there could be a wide range of game planning. Plus ..und gets Fleming back….that would be a huge upgrade as well.

Fleming, Deng at wr

Z, sawyer, Brunell, Langama at rbs

Go Sioux !

If we lose the game it won't be because of Simon.

There are a couple games from last year that might disagree with this optimism.. most games were the defense fault.. but there were a couple that the offense was MIA and a good chunk of that was Simon.

given that and Jerry’s play the last few games.. I would still start romfo this game.. and if Jerry is healthy work him in.

All this QB talk makes me wonder, what QB has been playing the best in practice the last couple of weeks? That's where it really matters.

That is typically what matters when coaches decide who starts. However, I would argue where it really matters is on the field on Saturdays.

This!

Kansas state.. Montana.. Youngstown.. salukis.. all pretty good teams.

versus USD.. NDSU.. SDSU.. tow of those at home.  I think the SOS is reasonably comparable.

Two playoff teams and a team so bad their coach resigned vs the best team in the country and two other tough playoff teams that all won first rounds games. It’s pretty clearly different.
