Apparently the players don’t understand the philosophy of being aware when the Plante line is on he ice.  Take something if given 3x3, but live to get a second unit on the ice where you probably have an advantage.

I miss when UND would have a line that would completely shut down opposing teams top line.

Get the win tomorrow night and this weekend ends up as a great weekend. All they have to do is shut the Plante line down. The hard part is shutting the Plante line down. UMD will only go as far as that one line takes them.

Homer made the initial save but sure seems prone to also taking himself out of position leaving making recovery almost nil.

Yes, he makes a lot of great saves but it seems to be at the cost of not being able to be in a good position to make the second save. Part of the reason he makes such “great” saves is his positioning isn’t super great, which makes it so he either makes a “great” save or he allows a goal. In summary, I would like the coaching staff to adopt the policy that if a goalie has a shutout they get to keep playing until they lose.

Hey at least they have a line that’s doing something at an extremely high level with incredible consistency!

What was wrong with 5x5 overtime?  3 on 3 overtime bails out teams that are holding on because it is a crapshoot, and hurts teams with momentum. That said, remember when UND had the super skill to thrive in those situations.  I as just hoping for a way to get through the first shift so our depth would help.  Let’s face it, 3 on 3 only leaves 6 players on each team plus a goaltender to decide the game.

I just like nattys I guess. In the minority

Your love affair with Sandy is never ending. :D
Although you were largely quiet over the last 8 UND/UMD games when UND beat them. ;)

When they were down 3-1 with 4.xx minutes left I would have taken an OT loss in a heartbeat. Spoon's net tomorrow please

Yep. That was a point nobody saw coming with they way the first 55 minutes went

This.
Get the win in regulation tomorrow and this weekend is a success.
Start Spunar. Tell the dmen to defend. Tell the forwards to shoot when given a chance.

Doesn’t matter who is in net if they don’t understand the main thing you have to do against Duluth is taking away the cross ice one time pass that gives the goalie no chance.  Would have thought that would be a priority, and that they could deal with a sharp shooter that picks a corner.

I’m assuming Homer tonight and Spunar tomorrow was the plan going into the week. I kinda get it. I’ve seen a lot of inexperienced goalies have a great game and follow it up with a dud. Maybe Jax is looking for a rotation until somebody takes the reins.

Happy to see the resiliency at the end of the third. Totally selfish play by Liver there and he should know better than that. That’s a freshman level lack of judgement and shows complete lack of awareness.

That top line for Duluth is amazing and fun to watch but those minutes and expended effort doesn’t seem sustainable. Hopefully they’ll run out of gas tomorrow night and it’ll be a long season playing like that.

Is just shooting the puck on net a lost skill?

I hear ya. Hard to believe how many times what look to be scoring chances din’t even result in a shot on goal/are wide of the net.

Yeah UMD is going to live and die by that Plante line.

I still like this team's chances to be good.  When they're going, which we've only seen glimpses of so far, I think they're better than the last few years.  Even when Blake was here, he was amazing, but the whole team couldn't seem to put it together.  Shorter:  this team has a high ceiling.

With such a young team and all those new faces I expect some growing pains.  It is frustrating but expected.

The reality is no one was sure how this team would be out of the gate and it is going to take some time.

I'm really hopeful that no matter how good this team ends up actually being that they can be gritty and take on an identity where any matchup could result in a win.

They need to shore up mistakes and get their feet moving from what I can see.  The rest will come with their inherent talent.
