The Golden Gophers @ UND- 10/17 and 10/18

If North Dakota wins the special teams battle, especially with the PP, this leans UND sweep. If it gets into a tight 5v5 rock fight, this will be an extremely close, classic rivalry series that would suggest split.

The key to sweeping the Gofers is winning on Friday.  No Sioux team has lost the Friday game and ended up sweeping.:whistling:

Not only that, it makes it that much easier on the diehard fans who don’t want to have to deal with the possibility of our bitter rival having a chance to sweep at the Ralph.  The nerves seem to get worse with age, not better.

Almost Friday.

Question for those who take a bus to games:

Best bar/restaurant bus for 21 plus?

Best restaurant bus for people with family/friends under 21?

Bdubs has a free bus.

Minny vs BC was interesting. Minny played hard but BC still controlled most of the game.

Some comparison stats between UND and Minny:

PP: UND 66.7% vs UMN 12.5%
PK: UND 77.8% vs UMN 66.7%
Save percentage: UND .923 vs UMN .897
Faceoffs: UND 51.3% vs UMN 49.4%
Average age: UND 21.4 vs UMN 21.3

Special teams could be the difference this weekend.

Southgate or Varsity before the game, then any downtown bus after if you're talking 21+.

I don’t see Minny having better than a .500 season and making the post season. They really aren’t very good. Less than a UND sweep this weekend would be a major disappointment.

I'm not going to try to argue that point based on results so far.  I will say the Saturday Michigan Tech game was flat out embarrassing.  The BC series was much better.  Jimmy Clarke had 3 grade A in the second period that would've titled the game 1-1...didn't happen and that's hockey...and this years squad needs all of those.

The post season will definitely be a challenge for this years version of Gopher Hockey but then again last year went one and done so really...it is what it is.

The sample size is very small for both teams. Expect the unexpected when these two teams face off.

I'd say Rumors or Ground Round

Imagani that. Pretty much dead even in average age department for both teams. Goofer fans always like to play the card it’s pretty much 23 year old Sioux players taking on their fuzzy chin 19 year old players.

That is a factual statement.  Regardless of the outcome...sweep, swept, split...lotta season left for them both with conference play.

Is it really a shootout win in the record books? I thought it would go down as a tie, no?

Nevermind. The fellas on GPL did acknowledge that this game between Minn and BC on Saturday went down as an official tie. He said the fellas celebrated because of how long it had been since they’d won an OT shootout.

151-137-16.

How come every website shows a different all-time record? What is the all-time record in this rivalry?

The all-time records are different because of games that were played in the early days of UND hockey when they were still considered a club team.
The UND side excludes those club hockey results from the overall all-time record between the two schools.
The UMN side includes those games.

MN is a very slight favorite Friday on FanDuel.

Moneyline

Minnesota. -120

North Dakota. -110

All that means to me is more money is coming in on Minnesota ML, so FanDuel covering their tracks. North Dakota has to be a slight favorite in the public's eyes IMHO

But St. Clair never got to experience the rivalry in The Ralph for himself.

He's one of just six four-year players — at North Dakota or Minnesota — who never had the rivalry scheduled at home during their college careers.

The others are UND's Drake Caggiula, Bryn Chyzyk, Coltyn Sanderson, Gage Ausmus and Matt Hrynkiw.

Sanderson said the players may never experience higher emotions than this weekend, unless it's in the NCAA tournament or Frozen Four.

"It’s a really good experience for them to understand how much passion there is, and to know what they’re playing for," Sanderson said. "It’s super important for a young group to see the buy-in from the city, the state and around the country for UND hockey. It’s going to hit them in the face.
