I definitely think UND football is going to become a destination (already sorta has to a degree)…. Successful FCS coaches (young coaches not looking for their last position) will inevitably move on. Just would rather see them to move to higher level programs like San Diego, Colorado State, etc; not SDSU, NDSU or others like Eastern Washington if they are not moving up from (for example) position coach to coordinator or coordinator to head coach. 1 3 Quote

ND-fan Posted 19 hours ago Posted 19 hours ago I think we’re seeing that reason it taking time is that each of candidates have strengths but not what they are totally looking for in quarterback. Romfo has mobility, can run and can throw adequately in scheme of the offense and has shown leadership and appears others on offense .can buy into but his size limits him in making certain pass plays because changes on how he delivers the pass, Johnson new quarterback from San Diego looks part and has ability to run footballl but has struggled in throwing accuracies and learning the offense. Probably this will get better with time but does he get time to develop I think as season goes along but Schmidt wants to win now to build this program quickly keep momentum going forward. Kamiski the board favorite that has look of traditional quarterback and has the tools throw the footballl. He has shown improvement since last year but the question can be Mobil quarterback that can run footballl create plays himself with his legs and not turn the footballl over and stay healthy. I think he gets playing time but this will determine how much time he gets. He also willl need to get offense behind him and can be leader of the offense. Sulik is in development year I believe his time to come is in the future unless we have number of injuries. I think beginning of the season we will see reps for each of top candidates but will depend on how each of these games goes and how each of quarterbacks are performing. Schmidt will need to get one or two victories to be able to make the playoffs so that will also determine quarterback playing time. The early part of schedule this team needs to win these games and can not afford to give away game on building quarterbacks for the future several of these teams should be wins but we have struggled in past with them so we may not get people in like they might like. 2 Quote

Another way to look at it, it’s another way of saying, we need to get stops on 3rd and 4th down or not let a mobile QB kill us on defense or be sharp on blocking, pass run reads or solid special teams or put teams away when we get up early. Basically the perfection on the details lead to better things. That is was great teams do. 1 Quote

So the Starter can get as many Reps as possible with the 1's and build chemistry. My fear is for the 2nd year in a row it feels like we don't have a true starter. We have 3 guys battling and any of the 3 could be 1-3 on the depth chart come game 1. I was really hoping one of the 3 would emerge as the clear starter, but it seems that everyday one or two of them struggle and one or two have a good day. Quote
UND Football Fan Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago If there is not a standout by end of the week, my guess Javance or Jerry starter and Simon backup. My logic is if they are all about the same, go with the one that will be back next year. 2 Quote

siouxfan512 Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago I can't imagine a scenario where Simon get the starting job. Given what we saw overall last season, a new coaching staff, a transfer they brought with them and what we have heard from coaches ... I just don't see it. I do think he will be worked in, and he should, I just don't think he should be the starter. QB1: JTJ/Jerry QB2: JTJ/Jerry QB3: Simon (experience) QB4: Sulik (Coaches said he is looking good, but needs to be quicker on decisions) Edit: FWIW, If Simon wins the job and steps up to dominate and play well. I will gladly eat some crow. I like some of his flashes last year, but hated the consistency. I'd like to see someone a little more physical and with a little more zip on the ball. But when it comes down to it, I just want to see us win! 4 Quote

Ideally, the QB situation goes like what Schmidt saw with Kalen DeBoer when he was with him from 2020-2023 (Fresno State- Jake Haener, Washington- Michael Penix). Of course, Schmidt saw a not ideal QB situation in 2024 with San Diego State and the W-L record there indicated that. Even Fruechte and Schmidt have said publicly they want someone to grab ahold of this thing. Need a stud QB for UND to grab the reins and not look back… as of now, not sure that has happened …. Y’all know the saying "if you have two quarterbacks, you have none" is a common football adage, often attributed to the legendary coach John Madden… 2 Quote

Sioux94 Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago If they name a starter this weekend, still two weeks of practice before the first game. I dont think starter will be named until at least this weekend. Could go out another week though like last year...we'll see. 2 Quote

Brockstarish if you will. Agreed, but didn't Freuchte say something to the effect of he expects to see multiple guys at some point because he thinks there is too much talent in the room? FWIW, I agree with you, I'd like to see one guy take over and really be the guy. 2 Quote

jdub27 Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago Quote Daily dose of QB: The theme for the last few practices continued with no single QB pulling away from the competition. If Kaminski and Tupou'ata-Johnson appeared to be making the battle a two-man competition through the first few practices, Romfo's stock has risen in recent action to once again force a three-man race. Hopefully people learned from last year to keep an eye on Miller's comments through fall camp. 1 2 1 Quote
