I remember when the Ivy schools would brag about their hockey players not being on athletic scholarship.  
Turns out many players somehow received scholarships set up by alumni that shockingly went to really good hockey players.  It was amazing 

Anyway, seems that money finds a way to go to really good athletes at colleges…

Came right from a player, so I'll take him at his word.

That player also had to pay for Zeev when he left and didn't pay for his food. I'd expect a high end player getting NIL to pay.

That is a valid point, but I wonder if the fact that Herter and Jackson were teammates and the fact that is their alma mater doesn't change that.  That has been my hunch since they didn't open up the 2nd position yet. Have to wait for Herter's season to be over.

I was on fb team for one year at St John's back in the 80's.  It was the same back then.  No athletic scholarships allowed but the best fb players magically got academic or other scholarships to be there.

Daughter attended Columbia, which doesn’t award merit scholarships.   They made a lot of money available to her by way of other grants.   Schools will find a way if they want you.

Hadn't considered that angle but this feels very plausible. 

Not only the NCAAs but the USHL and other junior leagues (or CHL?) are still playing so maybe he's waiting for any number of attractive options to finish up their seasons (St. Clair, Smaby, Herter, etc...)

Yeah D3 schools just pump up the financial aid and grants to where most if not all is eventually covered.

I would say this is not true, at least in the MIAC and WIAC schools. I knew and played with several high-end NAHL guys who decided to hang up the skates due to the cost of school to play DIII.

Granted it has been a while but I played at a D3 school and that is how it was then.

Having an American coach that can be a WJC coach is a plus.  Didn't someone mention years back that a Canadian coaching in ncaa is not likely to coach WJC Canadian team?

There have been people wanting change with Hockey Canada and to be more like USA Hockey with the NTDP
