Rydell has dealers in their group from Sioux Falls and St.cloud , I wouldn’t read too much into that flight.

True, but it's the timing of the flight which is intriguing.

All jokes aside. Hypothetically if private planes are used to fly around candidates for this position I would have always assumed it would be friends of the program. Never thought UND would foot the bill for that.

Friends with grandsons joining the team next year? Those kinds of friends?

It would be unlikely to use private aircraft UNLESS the plane was already on location for another reason and/or the flight was already scheduled.  I've interviewed several times in my career for executive roles with BIG companies with private jets.  I was always flown commercial.  Black car service waiting at airport, but never the corporate jet for an interview.  I'd imagine UND operates similarly.

I have been reimbursed for travel expenses for the last couple of job interviews that I have done. Common practice now and when you are talking a package worth north of a half million dollars. I can easily believe that they would be flown in on a private charter.

UND FB desperately needed an infusion of some buzz and juice. Schmidt brought that to the fan base immediately. There's hope in the upcoming FB season. The Schmidt hire moved the needle.

UND hockey, the flagship sport of the U, desperately needs an infusion of some buzz and juice. IMO Jackson won't provide that for a fan base that is tired of mediocrity and has become borderline apathetic. Would a Jackson hire move the needle?

But at the end of the day winning cures all.

I agree with you.

But Gino was on Bjorkman's staff when he was hired to run the program in 1978.

And Gino clearly ran the program differently than Rube did.

And the results showed it.

So it's impossible to know for sure.

I'm talking about excitement fused back into the program with the announcement of this hire. Results are different topic.

Can’t be flying head coaching candidates around in a Piper Cherokee.

"We're sending you a nice Piper Cherokee to pick you up."

"Who's the pilot?"

"UND graduate Kendal Swanson."

"I think I'll drive."

Mr Schlossman would say otherwise. Look at this stat 🤣

but anyway back to the topic of this thread...

A big part of this is our continual reliance on the portal for our goalie needs.  Why can't we recruit a good prospect and develop him over 4 years.  Many other programs can.  I had high expectations when Karl was hired and in my opinion he has not met them even though TJ played well the last part of the season.

And Rydell is one of the biggest donors to UND.

I'm sure he's told them yeah anytime you wanna use my plane go ahead.

Well someone better get out to the airport and see who gets off the plane.  Settle this once and for all!

I’ve been thinking Berry was why Karl wasn’t out building a goalie pipeline.

Does Augustana have any message boards that some are on? Curious if there is any talk of Rabioun possibly leaving.

It's gonna take a lot of convincing and a heck of a sales job - the numbers of zeros in a contract can do that.

I have worked with Karl on many occasions and he is a really nice guy, very smart and articulate. I saw someone post that as a coach he doesn’t relate to players and I actually can see that being true. When he was hired I had very high expectations for him not only with being a good goalie recruiter but perhaps an air apparent down the road. Again nothing personal against Karl but he has been underwhelming to say the least.

Problem is.

Eric Schmidt easy to spot.

Garrett Raboin looks like almost every guy walking out of avflight.

Well, going with experience (Berry) didn't work out that well. So I am open to doing something different this time.

I would also argue that Blais hadn't run a college program until we hired him in 1994. And that worked out pretty well.
