You'll have to excuse someone who's used to following a program who ignores state hiring guidelines, wings it and then (unfortunately correctly) assumes no one will ask any questions.

That said school and program (North Dakota State University of Agriculture and Applied Sciences football program) is also used to ignoring other unspecified guidelines and then asking for forgiveness later; a complete embarrassment and waste of tax payer dollars.

Onward.

Haug came to Wyoming from North Dakota State where he was a member of head coach Craig Bohl’s coaching staff for the 2012 and 2013 seasons, working as an offensive assistant.

In Haug’s two years on the NDSU staff, the Bison posted a combined overall record of 29-1 and a Missouri Valley Football Conference record of 15-1, while capturing back-to-back Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) National Championships.

Haug is originally from Crookston. Played at Bemidji State. Presumably played for Schmidt in high school.

Executive Director of Recruiting

every program of reasonable size that wants to retain relevant will need one of these- it’s become much more complex in the new world. Glad Schmidt makes sure he has someone like this on his staff from day 1

There will be someone, but not him.

Correct. Haug is great. Will be a great addition. Great energy, great recruiter. This is a win!

Of all the open postings only Edge is yet to be filled save for the RB opening created by Kirkwood's departure.

UPDATE: There's a WR coach position listed today.

Haug being LB and assistant HC may have slipped past folks. Naming an asst HC but no DC was the tell for me that Schmidt was going to carry that role.

is Eric taking on the DC as part of his deal?

I called this Dec 20.  It was about the salary pool.  Notice Haug is asst coach and will be watching the offense when Eric is giving an ear full to the defense.  This will be an intense defense.

Wasn't he the DC for Bubba for 8 or so years.  How'd that work out?

-6 years (2014-2019), not 8.

-Overall record 37-32 during those 6 years.

-Offense was an issue, not defense; offensive coordinator was fired and replaced in 2018.

-hired away by Kalen DeBoer, current HC of Alabama, in 2019

But we know you have all the answers, Simple Dan, so you’ll probably be able to precisely predict how he does as a first time college head coach…
