Such a shame we didn't go the Wyoming route and just have one state school. Alas.... Would have been a good model for both Dakotas and Montana (and probably Idaho). 2 Quote
SiouxFan100 Posted December 16 Posted December 16 Do we still need a “nose tackle” as such? Maybe just called a tackle going forward Quote

Maybe just called a tackle going forward 4 man fronts typically have a Nose and a Tackle. Nose is more of a big body that plays a 1 Technique and a Tackle can be a bit smaller (still big) but plays in more of a 3 Technique. So yes, there will still be a Nose. 4 Quote

I really like the idea of 4-2-5 - it gets more size at the point of attack which is a must to be at the top level in the MVFC, plus you have flexiability on the next level. The trick is getting the right body types. Looking forward to seeing how the defense transitions. Does anyone else run this defense in the MVFC as a base? 1 Quote
F'n Hawks Posted December 17 Posted December 17 I’m guessing we will hear coaching staff announcements starting to come in this week and next. I’m excited to hear who he will be bringing in. Quote

I would say that’s almost 100% of who I and a lot were expecting to be retained. Stepps is the one I was surprised by. 6 Quote

I would have to watch some film on other teams, but I believe it has been a base D for NDSU for a number of years. Quote
Siouxperman8 Posted December 17 Posted December 17 What positions are still open besides DC and recruiting coordinator? Quote

OC probably got some say on who he wanted to keep around to help with the offense. Kostich isn't a surprise, despite some opinions, he's a good ST coordinator and is well liked by players, parents and high school coaches, plus has a ton of connections. Adding nickelbacks to his plate will take that off of Stepps, who will just handle CB's. Still need a safeties coach in the secondary, plus Edge, LB's and DL. 3 Quote
F'n Hawks Posted December 17 Posted December 17 So everyone but King retained on offense and Stepps only one retained on defense? I wonder if King will join Freund at SDSU now. Quote

Clear direction now who is staying and who is going. No issues at all. Quote
