To his credit he correctly describes the current state of affairs in the UND athletics department with Mr. Chaves in charge of things. What program right now is thriving? Be interesting to see Quote

He’s frustrated, but won’t do anything about it seems Jeez. Listening to that crap ruined my evening. ”we’re disappointed” ”we want to be a top 16-24 seed” ”a play or two here or there and it would have been a different season” ”in FCS football things can turn around quickly” ”the new facilities will be game-changers” I’ve heard all the above for years and yet there’s no postseason success or high level success against top competition. It all comes at home vs average to poor teams. And I understand this UND-friendly and UND-produced podcast would never address coaching directly, but how can you not acknowledge the importance of coaching in recruiting, development, game planning and in-game decision making? It’s literally the one constant within UND football’s mediocrity. Given the budget, and the field of FCS teams, UND should be a top 10 team every season competing for championships, not a just a playoff berth. The body of results has been significantly underwhelming, and staffing matters, and to discount or not acknowledge the importance of coaching is ridiculous. 1 Quote

The Sicatoka Posted November 27 Posted November 27 2025 is year two of Isaac Fruechte. He ain't "new guy"; honeymoon is over. A full off-season to install his offense. A good to great showing will set him up for more. 3 Quote

Won’t want the offense to score too quick, though, because that means the vaunted 3-4 defense trots back out. 1 Quote

They usually aren’t a hot commodity at this level. The hope is that they get moved up within the staff they are on which provides the opportunities for upward mobility. If the HC moves to the FBS level they hope to go along for increased exposure to other jobs or even a promotion. Kostich is liked by the players, the other coaches and reportedly is a good recruiter. 1 Quote

Hawkster Posted November 27 Posted November 27 So FBS is limited to 85 schollies and I've been under the impression they can't do partials like FCS, so the rest of the players were all getting nothing except maybe some NIL money? Quote

I am confident that the big boys had a little something for the non scholly guys even pre NIL. It’ll be actually on the table now I guess. 2 Quote
MinnDak Posted November 27 Posted November 27 There is a few streams of $ for athletes just like at UND. The big programs are really good at using all. I think it’s been mentioned but “non scholarship” programs can pay for everything and then some. Academics alone pays a lot. Quote

My bet is that every other college will be on top of this change, and that Bubba will start reacting after all the programs are taking advantage of it, that is if he can do it between naps. 3 Quote

Take the info however you want but: Nielsen obviously turned it around the last 2 years, but previously, he has had a 4 game losing streak (to end a season), 5 of 6 to end a season, two 3 game losing streaks in one season, lost 3 in a row to end the covid season before finishing 1-3 and then went 3-8 before having very solid showings the last 2 years. Stig's first 10-15 or so seasons at SDSU wer very average (and looks very familiar). Expectations were likely different for SDSU at the time during D2, transition and early D1 days. 1 Quote
