SiouxFan100
South Dakota was just plain better. We needed to play a near perfect game in all 4 phases - offense, defense, special teams and coaching.

Popular Post Oxbow6
Simon was 20-30 for 180 and 3 TDs. On face value....not bad. Except he had 59 yards through 3Q. 4Q was garbage time. Total stat padding minutes. Complete nothing burger when it matters in every game. 2

Great kid, but we need a 6'3 kid that can sling the damn thing into tight coverage and down field.

This team, especially the defense, is mentally fragile. It was easily predictable that usd would score after the fumble was ruled incomplete and i believe they did just a couple plays later. Defense thought it was getting off the field and was completely broken that they had to stay out there. They were barely a speed bump to the yotes offense after that until they reached 42. As much as I would like to have seen a different QB this year.. Simon wasn’t even in the top 10 of things that were wrong with this team. Offense usually did enough.. bubba and the defense were absolutely brutal… when was the last time we had a defense that you thought was even mediocre?

The whole day by day philosophy would mean you are continually getting better, stronger, more resilient, which would mean at some point you could win on the road. The last two years we played decent early, then imploded the rest of the year, which is the exact opposite of the day by day mantra. South Dakota seems to be the team that is building like SDSU and looking more the part physically of a program building day by day. We don’t even look like a team that is building and looking the part of a physically dominant team with dependable depth that looks the part as well. I will say that the day by day philosophy is pertinent to the resources we our giving the program to be able to compete, and as far as I know that should put us above South Dakota. Bubba has had ample time to build with the increased resources given to him. With the next phases of the facilities coming on board, it is time to give someone else an earlier start to building the program into something that is going forward rather than staying stagnant and spinning our wheels. If either of them care about the state of the program, Chaves and Bubba need to do the right thing for the sake of the program. 1

The offense did do enough but for me at some point you have to see what you have in younger guys that have more tools. I give kudos to the offensive staff. This offense was much better than I expected after getting gutted this off season. I really think our offensive staff is better. I can’t help to imagine though a QB with “consistent” accuracy with our running game. Both would have been so much better. At times you have to be a threat to convert a 3rd and 8 or 9. We are not sure if we have that in the bench or not. Defensively, no matter what our HC looks like next year we need a new staff. How many years are we going to deal with what we watched today. And the players are equally responsible. No fire or heart on that side of the ball. Some decent young talent but it needs to be coached. So much for 24 hrs. It was a long drive back after that game.

Just thought it might be a little much saying that our offense did enough most of the time.

With the exception of the top two teams in FCS, the offense has put up plenty of points that a capable defense should not allow more.
