Back in the day used to shoot pool over the noon hour in the basement of the Union with Kauk and Gretzky. Days of Our Lives was on TV in the background with the usual tostada for lunch. Clifford was in charge.  Golden age of UND.

been trying to get Nate at the sin bin to name a pizza after kauker. (and gretzky)....he's been hesitant...I said it would be most popular pizza ordered from 110 cherry Street.

also told him to rent out 2 billboards back to back........one side has mark smiling holding a "kauker" with it saying " I have a pizza named after me...don't tell gretzky"

the other side has gretzky holding his pizza with the it saying "I have a pizza named after me...don't tell kauker"

Now that is a turn of phrase.  Tom would have had a big laugh over the two interpretations. :)

How much does a USHL GM make? I really like the idea of Chyzyk coming here in a GM role.

Me too.  I wonder if any other NCAA programs have a GM role?  Or if those responsibilities all fall on the coaching staff.
UND needs to make it happen.

Firing a beloved coach is never easy, but sometimes the hardest decisions are the best ones. Just can't muster any excitement if nothing changes with the coaching staff. UND could still have a very talented team next year with the more mature defense & some quality additions at forward, but with the archaic system, bizarro line-ups & favoritism for certain players things won't progress past average.

This is not fact.  Heard from a guy, who heard from a guy. I was told when Eades was given the job in Fargo as GM, he was given 160k to split between him and a coach.  That was how long ago?  But it told me there isn't alot of money going around in the USHL for coaches and GMs.

I think Berry will finish out his contract(which he has 1 year left I believe) and then will be let go. The ONLY way, and I mean the ONLY way, that he would get an extension next year is he takes the team to at the least the Frozen Four. Even then, I dunno. I would say that he would have to win the Frozen Four to give him a better chance at either getting an extension or getting some offers from some other teams.

if kem calls and offers the farm....?

Ralph didn’t want Gino fired but the AD/President did anyway and that turned out pretty good. I sure hope she doesn’t get a vote.

I don't see him winning a game in the NCAAs

UND would get trashed big time if they let him go if he takes them to the frozen four or wins it all. If they are going to move on from him, they need to do it now (I don’t think UND will).

Yes, they are only setting themselves up for more pain down the road with any possibility of an extension, because Berry won’t change his stripes and clings to the defensive style he knows.  Most coaches get that most games are won with special teams, and if you are going to be the team defending all the time rather than attacking, you are going to be the ones with more penalties.  UND has to decide if getting in the tournament 50% of the time with no tournament runs is acceptable.  I’m guessing from how bad our athletic programs are, they think it is.

Feels like Berry (& staff) have a specific way they want to play but then don't really recruit for that style, leading to us seeing whatever the hell that was this season (and many seasons lately). They recruit pretty well, but they're not get many elite blue chippers whose talent just overwhelms you every game, nor are they getting many older grinders who have NCAA ready games right when they come in at 20 or 21 years old.

Not good when McLaughlin looked very off most of this year, don't know what to think of him at this point

No idea why you recruit a kid like Swanson if you’re going to attempt to play a ridiculously conservative dump and chase style. Sets the kid up for failure day 1, Perron too.

Is the GM type of role different from a “Director of Hockey Operations”?  I was trying to research which teams have a GM type of role and was surprised when UND was on the top of the list.  I do remember when this was originally announced but somewhat assumed it got phased out.  I was wrong in that assumption;

https://fightinghawks.com/sports/mens-ice-hockey/roster/coaches/patrick-swanson/566

“Swanson, who had spent his previous five seasons as UND’s equipment manager, oversees the program’s day-to-day hockey operations, including budgeting and spending, travel arrangements and video analysis and scouting breakdown.”

I would love to see carving out scouting, NIL, and player development under a new GM role. The portal, NIL, and CHL eligibility…are all new frontiers since this role was created. Winning on this front is going to be a differentiator.
