Brett0909 Posted October 22, 2023 Share Posted October 22, 2023 Normally I’m focused on UND, but I think this week will be a really interesting tell for Mankato’s season. I expected it to be a dumpster fire after the offseason exodus, but sweeping St. Cloud and being swept by a likely pretty good UMass team isn’t too bad of a start. Of course, St. Cloud is looking so far like they may be pretty bad, definitely the outlier dragging down the NCHC’s OOC record. Have to think it would be pretty huge for the Purple Cows confidence to have a good showing. Defense was very good Saturday, Friday got away from them when they were taking risks to get tied back up. That UMass team will be top 5 by the end of the year. They are super talented, but Carvel is going to need to cut them down on the needless clutching and grabbing. They are so talented, they don't need to do that stuff. That being said, they gave us chances with a ton of penalties. our pp was just awful though. You will likely see a more uptempo team than msu had under hastings. Msu skated well with UMass, but the chemistry.just wasn't there. Lots of passes behind guys, a ton of missed one-timers, and no one crashing the net. The goalie was leaving juicy rebounds, but no one there to put it home. You can tell it's a team that is still growing together. It's a team that lost the top 11 scorers, it's going to take some time. it should be a fun series.
