I think I would be very shocked to hear we go internal as Bubba said when the new broke down, he was leaving his phone was blowing off the hook with people, Wained to work here either he was bullshitting or telling the truth

those if he goes internal the word on the street is we’re throwing in the towel

Wat does Bubba need to do to get extended and keep is job?  Where is the bar he must reach?

-  Beat the Jacks or Bison

-  Winning season

-  Make the playoffs

-  Win a playoff game

-  Reach the Quarterfinals

-  Reach the Semifinals

-  Make it to Frisco

-  Win a National Championship

I think if he reach's the Quarterfinals he gets extended.

SDSU went to the SD Legislature and had the law changed so they could give Stig multi year contracts.   They claimed it hurt recruiting, they wanted to reassure the kids that the coach would be around longer.  No way does Bubba get to work to the end of his contract in 2025.  He's either going to be fired or get extended just because of recruits.

USD, not SDSU, led the effort to get approval for multi-year contracts when the Coyotes wanted a longer commitment to offer to Bob Nielsen, current USD football coach. Personally, I think it was a good move and benefitted the schools and their coaches.

So you think they'll get to 7 wins and probably backdoor their way in?

In a twelve game season, is a 7-5 regular season enough to make the field.

But you can't keep doing the same thing and expect different results and that's what keeps happening.

"Top 5" program Albany disagrees with you!

Way to early to predict a record in my opinion.  Common sense would say 7 wins and 1st round exit.  They need to hit the portal hard after Spring Ball.  Obviously help on the defensive side of the ball.  Interested to see who they bring in as Offensive Coordinator.  I'm think we will see an upgrade at QB.  I'm guessing the Writing was on the Wall or Schuster would have stuck around 1 more year.

Don't say that or Chaves will think that Bubba will turn things around eventually if given enough time.   Yes Gattuso did turn that program around after ten years of failure.

Not downplaying his success because it speaks for itself but I'd be curious where his offenses at SIU actually ranked. I think they were above average but they won 5, 4, 6 and 7 games those 4 years. Beyond those few years, at the time his only other college experience was at the NAIA level where recruiting and requirements for players was completely different than D1 NCAA (and he obviously was very successful). It wasn't like it was a glaring mistake at the time.

Very easy to look back and make the obvious comment that UND made a mistake. Happy for him as by all accounts he's a legitimately good guy. But looking back 10 years isn't going to move the program forward today.

Searching his name on this forum and going back to the oldest posts is fairly interesting... helps to provide some of that context to the decision at the time.

Well, as for 2013 SIU, Bubba’s defense was not exactly something to write home about either …

2013 SIU: Averaged 28.5 ppg on offense and defense gave up 25.2 ppg.

So, you tell me; was the offense or the defense more impressive? And who did UND hire, the OC or the DC?

Rather than always looking for exceptions to the rule to justify Bubba Schweigert still being UND HC, maybe, just maybe, we should pay attention to the rule of the thumb; that is, what usually happens. If you can’t get it done after 10 seasons, you probably can’t get it done.

My comments were aimed more at Bubba and the present staus of the football program than about Deboer.  With the correct man in the saddle, UND would instantly be a consistent seed at the FCS level.

Who did their mutual boss endorse? An interesting question we'll never know the answer to.

So from Tom Miller’s list, would we be excited about any of these? Feel like Landry would move the needle for some. I’d say he’s done okay at St Thomas but nothing earth shattering.

I think people would be pretty bummed with King. That’s not to say he wouldn’t be a good OC but just the lack of experience and it feels like he’s not that well known even though he’s been around for a while.

Karson Pike, Bemidji OC, is interesting to me. Bemidji has been pretty good lately and his offense have been good too averaging 38 in 2018, 30 in 2019, 34 in 2021, 37 in 2022 and 30 in 2023.
