I have mixed feelings on what’s going through Trey’s head. Maybe he has something lined up at the D2 level where he can likely start right away or after a couple weeks and then if he performs well, he can transfer up, if D1 is the goal. On the other hand, yeah you just lost a QB battle but to another unproven kid. I think there was a high chance he was going to get playing time and if he performed well he could take the job. Now maybe he just saw Simon lighting it up and realized he didn’t have a chance. I don’t know, best of luck to Trey unless we play him.

This is his 3rd year, if he didn’t crack the starting lineup I don’t blame him for not wanting to mostly sit the bench for the rest of his career.

these kids came to play. I guess it’s just frustrating to see kids leave but fully understandable.

I have to admit I was really hoping for the UND/NDSU game winning, Feeney to Belquist connection, in the fargodome this year.  Would have been an altimer.

I dont blame Feeney at all for leaving.. Although the most recent "day by day" was clearly cut before this happened.  He spent last year as the 2nd stringer and got in so rarely even when the games were out of hand.. Im sure he saw that flashing before his eyes again.

Im not a QB talent evaluator, and barely only a commentator on the internet, but have to assume he saw the rest of his career going by without ever getting to play meaningful minutes.  My assumption is Danny saw him every day and picked Tommy over and over regardless of struggles.. Fruechte has likely seen more QB talent and knows what he wants way more than I will ever even think about and somehow picked Romfo over him (also a junior).  I was kind of guessing that Romfo was picked as QB1 for the Iowa St football game and that 2-3 QB's would get meaningful time but they seem to be really pushing the Romfo thing.  If back in January you would have told me that we would have ended up with a shorter QB than we had last year I would have laughed. 

Im excited with what I have seen out of Fruechte so far so am really hoping he made the right decision.. Im really excited for Romfo to see what he can bring to the table and hope he continues his winning ways, but was also really hoping that Feeney would get his shot this year.  As long as Feeney doesnt end up in the MVFC Ill wish him all the success.

If this nets Jerry more snaps and gives Sulik a few "four games" snaps it could be for the best.

Listen to the OC's presser from yesterday: he's really high on the potential of Sulik. 

Agree that Feeney wasn't overwhelming last year but was 15-20 for 217 yards.  Ave 14.5 yds/completion and over 10 yds/attempt.  I think we'd take that any day.

You would almost assume so. He has the height and left arm and great touch. I assume his football IQ is high. I bet he has a bright future yet.

Kids obvi couldn't tell the truth if they thought otherwise. 

When I was directly competing with another player for a job we both told the Herald how well we got along and no animosity.  In truth, I thought he was a smug SOB and he didn't like me either.

How do we know Moo U isn’t after him? Who do they have waiting in the wings after their two QB’s graduate. I wouldn’t be surprised if we see him land in Fargo if he is really going to play FB and not Baseball

They didn't want him out of HS...not sure they how much they'd be jumping for joy to take him after getting beat out by a PWO. Not that they wouldn't take him for depth purposes....but not sure they would do it thinking he is their next 'Dude' at QB. But hey they did want our OC so you never know

When Romfo was named starter, I got optimistically anxious to see what the underdog could do. But now I am more anxious/nervous, because if Romfo doesn't look good as the starter and  the OC incorrectly chose Romfo over Feeney.....it's a pretty big mistake that cost us. Think it kind of amps up the pressure just a little for both Romfo and the OC.

I'm not sure how you figured he was lying.  All he said was he enjoyed working with Fruechte and learned a lot.  That can still be true.  He is just looking for somewhere else where he will get a chance to play.

Not sure I understand the thought process in leaving the team. Don't think transferring is an option at the moment. Why drop football (and any possible opportunities that might come up) while you wait to figure out where you're next move is.

His dad is a coach.  His has options.  His options are limited at UND, Romfo is the guy, for now.  Maybe for two years.  Trey is looking for more options.  Sign of the times.

I’ve been trying to figure out why now? If he is able to land somewhere for this season, fine but if he doesn’t does he still burn a year of eligibility?

I think we should get used to it.

Money is out there to draw these guys in. Don't want to wait for someone else to get it.

But the portal is closed and he can't go anywhere until December. And I can't see why it wouldn't be a year of eligibility whether he's on a team or not. 

Not surprised he (or someone) left, just not seeing how the logistics and timing make sense.

Yup

But with Kaminski here and Sulik looking good he may have made the decision that no matter what he was not the GUY
