Problem is you post about this stuff in the wrong threads.  Creeps into every discussion.  There's nothing wrong with this post other than its in a thread titled "2024 Recruiting".  See the problem and why people may have an issue with you?  If you think discussion about 2024 is pointless that doesn't give you the right to ruin the thread for others.

I agree. Just needed to finish my responses. The distractions and arguments are largely a byproduct of what UND athletic leadership and football has done to itself. We all want to see UND football win, but yet, here we are. Don’t worry; I’m done posting in this thread unless it’s strictly about recruiting.

Football is more popular than hockey. FCS football is definitely similar in popularity to the entirety of collegiate hockey. Period. FCS football is still football. Doesn’t matter if pee wee, high school, college or pros. It is what it is. Profits are going to be hard to come by with collegiate athletics anywhere in North Dakota - not enough people. Hard to argue with delusionists. Can spin it anyway you want to fit your narrative. I’ll stick with the realists.

Pretty easy to figure out.  What are the TV viewer numbers for the FCS championship vs NCAA Hockey Championship game.  I'm sure someone knows how to look it up.  Edit.  Just went and looked it up.  FCS championship game generally has anywhere from 250,000 to 400,000 more viewers.

You always start with the false narrative that "football is more popular than hockey". FBS football in the P5 conferences ONLY may be more popular than hockey, but FCS football is not anywhere close to being more popular than D1 hockey. UND is in the black in one sport and that is hockey. UND makes more from hockey than NDSU makes from football, and NDSU has dominated FCS football for over a decade. Keep telling yourself otherwise.

Not anywhere close? You sure about that? Membership on its face would indicate that FCS football is infinitely more popular and less of a cold regional niche sport. Subtract all FBS schools from D1 hockey membership and what are you left with? I’d guess not anywhere near the 100+ FCS currently has.

Its 128 vs 50 in case you were wondering. And that’s including all the D2 and D3 schools that play D1 hockey. Very impressive! Much popularity. Such wow!

isnt there an ignore or mute thingy so u dont see a posters posts?

i've tried that, just makes the threads a jumbled mess as the responses are still there...  I've never been a big football fan, but wanted to become one for UND.  I contemplate whether the angst from all the negativity outweighs the rest.

I will say the number of negative post re: coaches is far worse on the hockey board.

FCS football is definitely close isn’t it? Maybe I’m wrong?

College hockey doesn’t consistently fill stadiums with over 15k fans. The whole FCS vs college hockey argument is dumb. You want to see whats more popular just walk into a Scheels in ND and see what school’s apparel is overwhelmingly dominant……. Not UND

For once I can agree with your post. College hockey has fallen in popularity in the region with the loss of the Sioux logo, rise of the Bison football, fall of Sioux football and the poor Sioux hockey teams. UND fans can be fine with the backseat but I will never be

Let me guess you are a hockey only fan. Only thing as bad as a hockey only fan is a Bison fan. Neither is good for UND.

NDSU literally subsidizes their entire athletic department and teammakers with their football program. UND hockey doesn’t come close otherwise UND wouldn’t have as much institutional support.

NDSU has dominated all of college football with their FBS wins and high draft picks. Only hockey fans know of any UND players in the NHL. The entire football world knows who Carson wentz is.

Not a great example, but your point is well taken. Carson is known only as one of the biggest busts in NFL history. Not happy about it as he seems to be a nice person.

Add Jonathan Toews. Michael Jordan was famously shown wearing his jersey. I doubt any athletes from other sports have ever worn a Carson Wentz jersey or any of the other practice squad players from NDSU. Hockey is also much bigger internationally than football, so hockey players are known not only in Canada and the US, but Russia, Sweden, and other European countries.

So…I watched Bubba’s Midco video after signing day. Liked the upper Midwest footprint. I actually submitted 2 names of uncommitted prospects. I am friends with one mother on FB. She said UND contacted her son…I totally sang the praises of the football team and MORE IMPORTANTLY  the education her son will receive.

To try to get this back on the rails ... based on this:

Why two QBs? I asked once already without a great answer.

Odds we see both Thadens starting at OL at the same time at some point?

The "front seven" recruits on D all seem light, but they are coming from HS.

How can we possibly be light on the d-line? Again. Always. Frustrating

the only thing I can think of is our coaches are ok with the status quo - can that possibly be true?

I doubt that they are ok with status quo.  More likely scenario is that they can't snag the players that would make a difference there.

Delusional ^ (ignores statistics; proceeds w/ subjective rationalization)

Football > hockey. Deal with it.

Correct. I think the staff has the right idea in mind, as far as what they need to recruit, but they just can’t actuate it. The debate is whether it’s due to a deficiency of resources or intrinsic inability. My guess, it’s likely a combination of both.

Maybe Romfo is switching positions?

I don't see QB Romfo getting higher than third on the QB depth chart so you may be right.

Both Romfos in the RB room would add some depth and they run hard.

The film I've seen of Deng Deng shows he has a long loping stride, not short-choppy steps like Belquist. Is he going to get open with that stride?

Last "lopers" I recall are Toivanen and Maag. It worked for them I guess.
