It is early, but ending up in top 8 may help getting a home game in the NCAA second round.

I agree but next game is the poll.  After that the next game is the poll.  Focus and don't look ahead.

Absolutely.  Without the next win, polls are not going to do us any favors.

Montana State without its top 3 RBs yesterday, so take that score with a grain of salt, but I also don’t see them getting past the quarterfinals this year

Polls matter because they are the basis for seeding - duh. I understand it is early and we need to just win.

there is a little status quo with the polls. It’s not easy to make significant moves upward later in the season because the upper seeds need to lose to provide a spot to move into

not too focused this early but I would be concerned if let’s say we weren’t in the top 25 with what we have accomplished so far.

would like to get more spots upward to maybe top ten by mid season  - if we deserve it

just don’t want to be a bubble team at the end because we haven’t been given the benefit of the doubt

Polls really are a complete waste of time at this juncture. UND has huge games coming up against Southern Illinois, Missouri State, South Dakota State and North Dakota State.

UND needs to just win. If UND can do that, polls will take care of themselves.

They are not. You want to be a familiar ranked team for playoff selections.

Which still comes back to what you do on the actual football field …

UND hasn’t been a familiar ranked team for playoff selection because they often lose games they shouldn’t. No one takes them seriously … yet

Idaho State numerous times while in BSC, South Dakota last year, etc.

Having both teams ranked for upcoming home games will go a long ways getting fans to the games.  Would be really nice to be ranked in the top 10/15 when the puck drops.   When you are in the same state as a team consistently in the top 5, not being ranked is not the best look.  So while it’s easy to just say “just win” and the polls take care of themselves, writing them off as meaningless is pretty short sighted for the importance to the casual fan.

Yes. Oct 1 is the hockey exhibition game and also the homecoming game against Missouri State. If we can beat the Salukis next week, that could set up an easily hyped game of Top 15 teams against the Bears. Have to keep the hockey crowd interested, especially when both teams have games on the same day.

Pointless argument

we’re all saying the same thing here

want to be ranked, then win …

Want to be popular and get bigger and nicer things, then be ranked, by winning …

Are to talking to me or the players, my response was to us in this thread - not at all a message to the players.
I don't see anything wrong with us posting and reading about the polls.

I would disagree.
Again, my posts here are to the fans, not the players - they have a few team coaches to guide them.

We need to be moving our way up with 8 games left.
S Ill
Missouri
Youngstown
SDSU
ACU
Indiana St
SD
NDSU

By not being in the top 25, one does not jump into the top 8 in the last week or two of the season.
Being that 8 teams get a bye, followed up by a home game - I'd say go for it, earlier the better.

Now, you of all fans seems to be unsatisfied by not having a top team? And, I'd add your wheel is squeaky.
I would put you in the category of just getting in the Top 8 isn't even good enough?

Polls are fickle.  The beginning of the season SIU was in the top 10.   Many of us believed they were ranked to high based on their performance.  Many pollsters' were replacing SIU with UNI.  After SIU loss their first two games they dropped like a rock.  UND has always been the redheaded step child.  Polls are fickle and important.  For UND if we done win we will drop like a rock.  We have seen that way too many times.  Yes need to be top 10 probably top 5 for a seating to our benefit.  Just win.  We will climb higher.
