2018 and especially 2019 were sort of clunkers.

I would agree with your characterizations.  Although, I would also note that, we finished 14th in the Pairwise in 2018 (4 teams "stole" bids).  Most years we make the tournament in that position.  We finished 20th in 2019, so we weren't really even a "bubble" team that year.

Also, for those interested, CHN has historical pairwise data back to 2002-2003.  In that time frame, here is where we have finished:

2002-2003: 10th

2003-2004: 1st

2004-2005: 8th

2005-2006: 7th

2006-2007: 10th

2007-2008: 3rd

2008-2009: 8th

2009-2010: 5th

2010-2011: 2nd

2011-2012: 4th

2012-2013: 8th

2013-2014: 14th

2014-2015: 2nd

2015-2016: 3rd

2016-2017: 10th

2017-2018: 14th

2018-2019: 20th

2019-2020: 1st

2020-2021: 2nd*

2021-2022: 7th

The average finish in that 20-year timeframe was 6.95, or a #2 seed.

The breakdown by NCAA Tournament seed:

1 seed: 7 times (35%)

2 seed: 6 times (30%)

3 seed: 3 times (15%)

4 seed: 1 time (5%)

Missed Tournament: 2 times (10%)

No Tournament: 1 time (5%)

*As there was no intra-conference play in 2020-2021 due to Covid, the Pairwise results were likely inaccurate and not meaningful.  The NCAA Selection Committee ultimately chose North Dakota as the #1 Overall Seed.

I think the point of the post I was responding to was that even years when UND failed to qualify, it was in the neighborhood.  Finishing 20th means your last few weeks were relevant because you could still play your way up and in.  Compare that to examples from this year of former glory: BC 28, WI 37, Miami 46, Maine 51.  By UND's standards, 20th is very poor, the worst in two decades.  But it's not an embarrassment as those others listed were.

Awesome numbers.  Thanks for crunching them.

Not a problem.

I also looked at Minnesota State's. It shows a stark contrast to their success before and after conference realignment:

Pre-Conference Realignment (2002-2013)

Average Finish: 26.55

Best Finish: 11th (2012-2013)

Worst Finish: 49th (2011-2012)

Made/Missed NCAA Tournament: 2/9

Post-Conference Realignment (2013-2022)

Average Finish: 8.55

Best Finish: 1st (2014-2015 and 2020-2021)

Worst Finish: 28th (2016-2017)

Made/Missed NCAA Tournament: 7/2

Like I have said. No one has benefited more than Mankato from the conference realignment.

Why'd the words "Boston" and "University" just pop into my head?

However, it is rather disturbing that Wisconsin and Boston College had descended rather quickly. If it can happen to those two, anyone is susceptible.

Crazy to think, but if Boston College does not make the 2023 Frozen Four, it will tie their longest drought in school history without a frozen four appearance.

Not quite ... 1990 to 1998. (But 2016 to 2023 would be gettin' up there.)
Or are you saying if not in 2023 they tie (because 2016 to 2024 would be the tie).

The latter point was what I had intended to convey.  Took me by surprise by how much of a frozen four dry spell they’re currently in for BC standards.

So, I wonder if Zach Dubinsky is the brother of Aiden Dubinsky who is committed to Duluth.  Wonder how soon before we see Duluth active in the portal, although probably more so on the back end.  Wouldn’t mind getting Daschke and preventing Duluth from getting him as long as he fits the profile of the kind of guy they want.  Looks like he ate up a lot of minutes.

Joey Abate signs with Providence of the AHL. In other news, cross checks and injuries in the NCHC is expected to drop significantly next season. Here is a live look in of the players that will be taking the ice against him:

That's the appropriate organization for him to go to.
