I think there must be a bigger issue in UNO this offseason.
You don't lose a JR with 5pts on the year to an early departure (along with all their other departures & transfers) unless something is off.

Its possible that Gabinet cut his scholarship and/or suggested he leave.

But yeah, that's too much turnover on a roster that's otherwise not experiencing a coaching change (like BGSU last year).

UMass' Bobby Trivigno signs with NYR and gives up the Covid year.

I haven't seen this much hype around an eastern kid since Jason Krog could walk on water at New Hampshire.*

*The fact it was 10 degrees F didn't matter ... he's walking on water!  :silly:

Blake > Krog

Panzer (both of them) > Krog

Hoogsteen (both of them) > Krog

But I will concede Jason Krog > Brian Bonin.

UNO is gonna be hitting the transfer portal harder than we were last year looking for replacements for all these players.

Also, for those interested, CHN has historical pairwise data back to 2002-2003.  In that time frame, here is where we have finished:

2002-2003: 10th

2003-2004: 1st

2004-2005: 8th

2005-2006: 7th

2006-2007: 10th

2007-2008: 3rd

2008-2009: 8th

2009-2010: 5th

2010-2011: 2nd

2011-2012: 4th

2012-2013: 8th

2013-2014: 14th

2014-2015: 2nd

2015-2016: 3rd

2016-2017: 10th

2017-2018: 14th

2018-2019: 20th

2019-2020: 1st

2020-2021: 2nd*

2021-2022: 7th

The average finish in that 20-year timeframe was 6.95, or a #2 seed.

The breakdown by NCAA Tournament seed:

1 seed: 7 times (35%)

2 seed: 6 times (30%)

3 seed: 3 times (15%)

4 seed: 1 time (5%)

Missed Tournament: 2 times (10%)

No Tournament: 1 time (5%)

*As there was no intra-conference play in 2020-2021 due to Covid, the Pairwise results were likely inaccurate and not meaningful.  The NCAA Selection Committee ultimately chose North Dakota as the #1 Overall Seed.

Thanks for putting all that together. As I suspected, no program has been as “consistent” about being in the mix every year.

As someone else mentioned that won’t stop the teeth knashing of the “natty or bust” crowd. However, I think level headed adults can recognize how impressive that is without qualifying it with “but where are da nattys?”

Their head coach.  Enough said.  You can't tell a kid like Abate to play across the line and then bench him when he does.

As soon as that happened I knew we were at the end of seeing Abate in Omaha.

Well, at least we don’t have to worry about him taking runs at any more players in the NCHC anymore. I am sure he will tone it down a bit in the AHL.

A guy like "Joey Abate" is like the bus: there's always another one coming along.

Now he's got to fight his way out of his crap against other guys trying to impress somebody as well.

Keep your hands up kid.

He’ll find out he’s just one tough guy in a league full of tough guys ready to drop the gloves.

Truth is, I think the coach spoke volumes (and correctly) by scratching him for the quarter finals. The crowd here is pretty rough on Gabinet, but young guys can make mistakes by over reaching. Can’t compare him to Denver’s coach, that kid got a ready made contender to start with…

So my question is, why the playoffs his third year in the league?  You watched him do that for three years and that was the time to start making him pay for his over the line play that hurt your team?

I agree with not playing him to give his team a chance to win though for sure

Honestly, I think he’d had enough and it’s possible but unknown that Abate already made his choice and didn’t respond well to coaching. Prior, it’s safe to say, they didn’t really have the horses like they did this year.

Three players from WMU entered the portal, including their only two remaining goalies.
After Bussi signed and the other two are now in the portal, that leaves them with no goalies.  :0

Aslanidis was actually not bad when he had to be the starter.
