Matt Malm during a coaches meeting one year recommended moving the boys tournament to Minot (All Seasons Arena) when there was issues with scheduling the girls and boys in GF. Scheels arena is a great place to host. Actually seemed like some atmosphere last night. speaking of matt malm (absolutely a great great guy)...was Chase on his staff when Matt was head coach? Quote

As a player and as a coach he single handedly put Bismarck hockey on the map. His first year coaching the demons he spoke at a high school coaches meeting in Grand Forks about his career, upbringing, and how excited he was to coach his former high school. You kind of got the feeling then that the tide would be turning for BHS hockey. Some people like him, some people hate him, but a lot of his players would skate through a brick wall for him. Quote

That being said there is NO reason these crowds couldnt fit in some other arenas too. The new addition to Maysa would fit this tourney very adequately as well as offer additional rink to host the girls at the same time. Time this tourney visits western ND. Would have to be Bismarck, let then have the tourney one year, go from there. Quote

Wilbur Posted February 25, 2019 Posted February 25, 2019 Grand Forks still in talks to get the MJHL team? That could end up being like a AAA midget team for the city, and maybe you don't see kids like Costello, Kuntz, Caufield leave the city so early. Wouldn't be a shortage of guys in the forks area that could coach that team either. Quote

IMO it's just a matter of time. Would NDAHA allow full season Midget AAA in Grand Forks/Fargo? There is already the Team North Dakota B/A program, but they seem to be falling behind the Sioux Falls Power AAA as of late. It would definitely impact the quality of HS hockey in North Dakota. One could argue that between USHL, NAHL, and Sioux Falls AAA program that is already happening so might as well provide a full season opportunity closer to home. Be careful with this. The quality of the Midwest High School League in Iowa has been destroyed because all of the best players now leave to play for Omaha, Iowa Wild, Sioux Falls, Madison, etc. AAA programs. In order to have a chance to play meaningful junior, or someday college, hockey players know HS hockey is not a viable option. It's too bad, really. Quote

Makes plenty of sense right now. 19 teams.....AA Would be the 5 Fargo teams, 2 Grand Forks teams, 2 from Bismarck and Minot. A....would have 9 to start with. I think more would want in after the two class system was established. 2 Quote
