I bet we could be pretty good offensively right away with him, especially if he can retain a couple current players and with the portal likely being more flooded than usual.  With his connections, might be able to put together a solid defensive staff.

I wonder who would be his QB out of the gate...

With a new coach coming does Jerry stay and risk not going into the portal?

Will a new coach realize that tight ends are eligible to catch passes?  Will the archaic defense be replaced?  Stay tuned.

We’re still adjusting to the forward pass.

With the coming FBS roster hard cap of 105 I’d advise anyone with a roster slot to be grateful. Could be upwards of 3000 guys without an FBS home looking for one.

Haven’t seen any flights to calgary

but my big sky sources said Baldwin got jobbed at cal poly

Beau is a Cali guy and the CFL season is over. My guess is Beau Baldwin is not physically located in Canada at the moment…

Learn from 2013/2014. Grab a fast riser, most likely to use UND as a stepping stone. Looking back on Bubba vs DeBoer, there were signs who would ascend further and faster. One was clearly more of a “UND is the final designation” guy, and I strongly think that needs to be avoided now this time around.

Yes, been mentioned many times he’s never been a collegiate head coach, but I didn’t clarify that in my most recent post.

A guy like Beau Baldwin - who has actually been a collegiate head coach at the FCS, and won a national championship, would also have a ton of connections, from Eastern Washington but also time with FBS programs/staffs at California (Cal) and Arizona State (ASU). Give me Beau.

He's a viable candidate, but Baldwin has been in the downslide since he left EWU. His offenses at Cal and ASU were atrocious and his stint at Cal Poly was a dumpster fire. He is 52 and definitely not on a current upswing.

Not saying with the right resources he couldn't be successful again, but he's almost a decade away from the last time he was actually successful.

If he's interested, he'll get a look because of his connection to the AD.

1.  Eric Schmidt

2.  Eric Schmidt

3.  Eric Schmidt

This would be the stereotypical mindset of UND historically, hiring someone who returns to Grand Forks and UND due to familiarity and not the best ability, but that needs to be steered away from. With all said, I wouldn’t be surprised if precedent gets its way (again) …

I think there are better candidates that have actual collegiate head coach experience (and better experience and success as a coordinator as well).

Beau Baldwin did quite well in terms of wins and loses at Cal. He was an apart of a resurgence, with team going 5-7 his first season in 2017, and then 7-6 in 2018, and then finally 8-5 in 2019. Yes, the offenses were not that great, but team did okay. Cal Poly was a dumpster fire but it was during the pandemic when a poor job got poorer. The ASU season (2023) was bad.

All in all, though, given his connections are equal to Schmidt’s in terms of FBS, and Beau Baldwin actually has been a successful (and champion) FCS head coach, I’d give the nod to Beau Baldwin over Schmidt.

Schmidt’s UND ties are why we could get him - his 6 years under Kaelyn Deboer of playing chess instead of checkers is why you should want him.

Someone who has seen it SEVERAL levels up and could come here and kick ass.

How is this Baldwin?

Johansen is the perfect fit. I want them to swing. Emphasizing what you wrote.
