jdub27
Quote "Making some cuts internally and adjustments internally, I'm looking at personally $1.3 million to operating a first-class operation and high-end program," Idalski said. "Some of the other numbers, I don't know realistically know where that's coming from and how that's calculated." Well what in the hell was UND spending $2 million on a slightly above average team if a high-end program can be done for 2/3's of that? Also, someone should show him the numbers and inform him that WIH will no longer get a free pass on Facilities expense as long as they are an REA tenant, so that eats up nearly 1/3 of "his proposed budget".

This is what happens when you give someone a blank check...the budget becomes whatever they fill in the check for themselves.

Not sure if it's the case for UND, but for many colleges that means June 30th.

jdub27
Clearly they are different allocations going on. Somehow NDSU shows $490K in revenue for women's basketball despite terrible attendance. UND is around $310K. Wonder what else they are dropping into the revenue side? The NDSU football revenue also includes $1.2 million in contributions that are somehow specifically allocated, whereas UND has minimal sport specific allocations.
nodakvindy
Definitely apples and oranges. Calling student fees revenue is dubious. All these numbers are doctored to tell whatever story someone wants told.

The Sicatoka
My guess: NDSU allocates targeted donations and student fees under specific sport revenues. That would make each sport deficit look smaller but non allocated revenues look smaller as well. That's what the article shows. Individual sports deficits at NDSU appear small but they show a much smaller non allocated revenue number as well. Bottom line? UND had a budget problem that needed to be addressed and strongly and they did.

That's actually a good point. If they did somehow save the program (doubtful) he'd likely be viewed as a hero and the school would be forced to extend his contract. Divide football's net loss by the number of student-athletes to figure per student loss. You could also take a look at the number of alumni and the donations as such belonging to football, which is not particularly reported here for UND football. As Kolpack includes via NDSU AD, the NCAA reportings aren't all that black and white in terms of net gain/loss.

Talk about a reoccurring nightmare...you said the same thing a couple years ago....so the "new UND president would have a clean slate". Guess you're about as good as predicting budgets as the pros at North Dakota Budget forecasters.
