Why? I have no understanding why he'd want to go there, right away. And I also have no understanding why Colorado would rush him.

Stay one more year, get bigger. They aren't going to magically morph into a good team with one player, regardless how great he is. The Avs are terrible.

Every time I hear Jost talk, he seems to have a huge desire to be here and loves playing for UND. I have yet to seen a convincing thing to suggest he's absolutely going. He knows he's going to have a chance to wear a letter and truly lead this team next year. I think he stays.

He'll get a max ELC.  That's why he would go....to start his NHL career. Due to how terrible CO is, he'll have as long as a leash as Schmaltz had to start the year.

From a  development standpoint should he go?  No.  But neither is Boeser and he'll go too.  Hopefully Boeser get's to play in the A for a year to work on his game more while getting used to the grinding schedule.

I understand that, for sure, but he'd get a max after next year, too.

Wouldn't he have taken the MJ route if he wanted to bolt after one year? Seems a lot easier than going to school.

He chose NCAA for a reason and every time I hear him talk, he seems like he adores UND.

You can only play hockey for so long.  Many folks seem to forget than he would get to burn a year off his ELC as well.  So he'll get his $925K next year (plus bonsus) while also burning the first year of his ELC.  He'll be closer to big bucks.

NCAA hockey (game to game) is much tougher than the CHL. Maybe that's why.

I am not saying he's leaving, im just stating the obvious factors on why he would leave after one year.

He's 18. He's shown this year he's going to have a nice career in the NHL. He's going to get his chance to make a lot of dough.

I understand the business aspect and financials, but he just seems like a kid who isn't thinking about an instant payday.

Try to think about this as unbiasedly as possible :)

Gonna have to go ahead and disagree w/ ya there, Jost is a top line guy regardless of being a freshman.

Jost is a top 5 forward talent in all of college hockey right now.

Has nothing about being biased, honestly. I'm thinking from a perspective from what I've seen/read/heard from him in the past 2-3 years.

- Hard worker
- Super talented
- Loves Toews and models his game after him
- Tremendous leader
- Loves UND

Again, he doesn't scream as a kid who's looking for instant financial gratification.

Would it surprise me to see a kid that talented and 18 years old take a HUGE amount of money? Absolutely not. I just think he'll stay one more year and that that was his plan all along. We'll see.

I agree with the first part...regarding the second, I hope you end up being right.  He has some buddies coming in next year too.  That may keep him around.

It won't shock me whatsoever to see him go, if he does. I just see no reason, other than monetary, for him to go. But, he knows he can make money in the NHL and that isn't going away if he stays one more season. Why not get bigger and more seasoned?

I agree.  Unless you can play instantly, why would a guy go?  Barring a shortage of money, I would personally stay in college until I turned 21.  You would be closer to a degree while also continuing to develop in a great league.

The big question is will he be able to play the a large % of the year right away.

No inside information, but trying to put myself in his shoes, I think how this season ends up may play a small part in his decision. If the team doesn't not only accomplish it's goal, but falls way short (i.e. no playoffs), for me that would leave a very sour taste in my mouth. You don't want that to be part of your legacy (I know it's not his fault), but could be extra motivation to come back for another year.

I think it ultimately comes down to are you going to actually play in the NHL most of the year. If yes, it's tough to turn that opportunity down and I wouldn't blame him for signing.

I think he would, for sure, being that Colorado is desperate for talent, but he just seems like a kid who's got a full grasp of the situation. He knows the money will be there whenever he decides to go.

Agreed on all points and I think that may keep him here. With the bolded part, I certainly wouldn't blame him, either. I also think he's a kid who realizes he's pretty darn good and will play a lot in the NHL right away, regardless of when he goes. So, why not spend another year developing? Colorado is going to be awful again next year. Why hurry?

I'd say Jost was gone except for one thing: the missed games.
That exposed that Jost is smaller and could use one more year to build the body.
Note that the injury came after the grind of many hard games in few days.
That's the way the pros run.

Intangible reason to explain the men's hockey teams fate....FB, VB won league championships....MBB and WBB currently in first place in the conference.....All these sports embrace the new nickname/logo....hockey does not!!!!  Get on board with that..and maybe fortunes will change....Seriously just as much logic as dedication, heart, selfish play, bad bounces, lack film study,etc.....that has been belabored to death on this site....

Those decrying the name/logo change are about as 'valid in thought' as those who decry 'Trump is not a valid president'.....get over yourself....and put your energies into things that are realistic to  'decry'!!!!!  Spend a week on a Native American Reservation (not at a casino or accompanying motel) trying to understand their issues and culture and maybe you will have a change of heart on the issue...not just P & M about losing a cool sweatshirt design!!!!

Interesting. But all my friends on the Reservations want the name back and never wanted it to go in the first place.

This ^ ... I'm pretty sure the Pepsi center is going to call me and offer to pay me to go to the games we have remaining on our ticket package so there are Avs fans in the seats.

First it was the curse of the old name and logo, and now its the curse of not embracing the new one.... We could literally come up with dang near anything if we wanted. Personally dont believe in any of that stuff. If you watch enough sports you realize that is the way they work. Some days/weeks/years you get the bounces, some you dont. Just have to work your @SS off, put yourself in a good position, and hope you get a bounce or two along the way. Keep working hard things will eventually even out. Still have faith in this team.

@petey23 Oh, sure, every white guy has one token Native friend on the rez that he can point to as a reference, right?  Isn't that the narrative, anyways?

I believe there's something "in the room" that's bugging this team.

I think you're onto something here as well - something's not right with this team.  We're the first ones to poke fun at Minnesota for locker room issues but love to assume everything is hunky-dory in the Fighting Hawk locker room.  15 wins and 13 losses does not add up to locker room harmony.
