Larimore

I've always been an advocate of RR crossing gates at every intersection.

Terrible and tragic situation for all parties.

But, we can't prevent every accident. There was a stop sign at the crossing that apparently was disregarded.

To put a crossing at every train crossing in all rural areas would be an astronomical price tag.

So thankful many more lives of children were spared.  It could have been so much worse for so many families.  Praying for rapid healings of bodies and souls and spirits.  May somehow this tragedy bring Larimore and the community together in a manner that seems impossible now.

We can all agree on this. Prayers for all involved, all of the injured students and their families, and for the student and driver that lost their lives and their families. It will be hard and take a lot of time, but hopefully all can forgive and get through this tragedy.

Maybe crossing arms at all rural railroad crossing would be too expensive, but how about a solar powered flashing sign or light when a train is approaching or present. That would be fairly inexpensive and well worth the cost if it prevents even one of the tragic accidents.

To every parent who will send their kid(s) to school today, and mine will be riding the bus, give them an extra big hug today and look them in the eyes and tell him/her you love them.

This is, as someone stated earlier, just a heartbreaking situation for the families, school and community involved.

From what I'm told, there is a shelter belt blocking much of the view until you're basically on the tracks at this crossing.

If this is the case............cut the down the trees...today.

Without a doubt. Cut the trees back IMMEDIATELY. Even if the driver was distracted and didn't see the stop sign and tracks at that moment a different outcome could of happened. If there had been better vision leading up the the crash, the driver or somebody on the bus might of seen the train coming soon enough to avoid the accident. Very tragic.

Some recent reports, although not confirmed, are that the 17 year old girl that was killed raced to front of bus to try to get bus off tracks as the driver was slumped over at the wheel.

That girl is a hero with a capital H. She saved so many kids by getting them to the emergency exit at the back of the bus disregarding her own safety. She was a brave warrior and this world would be a better place if we had more people like her. I know God is keeping her in good hands along with the bus driver.

It seems to me, children from smaller communities exhibit more maturity and responsibility than those in larger, urban areas....just my opinion.  Cassidy is a prime example.  Her selfless actions were above and beyond what many would do in the same situation.  I pray her family is able to bear their loss a little easier knowing she is, undoubtedly, in God's hands.
