UNDBIZ Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 P*** on Ohsie Lol. He obviously only knows what it's called and said "huh, clean water? Well that sounds nice." Quote
Nodak78 Posted October 24, 2014 Author Posted October 24, 2014 I hope is does affect UND donations: maybe Jimmy K. needs to slap some sense into him. Quote
Fetch Posted October 24, 2014 Posted October 24, 2014 Did he marry a environmentalist nut job ? Quote
GeauxSioux Posted October 24, 2014 Posted October 24, 2014 Sounds very similar to Florida Amendment 1. Initiative Information Whenever you see "clean water" in a measure or amendment, run. The environuts all use that language. Quote
Nodak78 Posted October 24, 2014 Author Posted October 24, 2014 UND better hope it doesn't pass. just saying. Quote
ringneck28 Posted October 24, 2014 Posted October 24, 2014 UND students are one of the major reasons that he was brought in as a spokesman in favor of this amendment. I am disappointed that they would use a MN native to support a ND amendment. I hope it goes down in a blaze. Quote
iramurphy Posted October 24, 2014 Posted October 24, 2014 For the life of me can't understand why this even has life. Why restrict the flexibility of the legislature to decide where the funds are spent each year? If we need money for the environment then appropriate what is needed. If we need more than 5% then spend more. If measure 5 passes the chance of getting more than that is slim. If less than 5% is needed then they have the flexibility to spend less. Guaranteeing money like this tends to lead to waste. Some of that 5% might be needed elsewhere. Similar legislation in Minnesota though not related to oil, guarantees money for environment and arts. Has led to waste in some cases and that money can't be used elsewhere. Stupid to limit flexibility and options but still need to protect environment. This isn't the way to do it. Quote
Nodak78 Posted October 24, 2014 Author Posted October 24, 2014 It is all about the control of money. Good solution would be for TJ to take 5% off the top of all his earning for the next 25Years and built the damn ice rinks he wants. If TJ graduated it had to be in basket weaving. Quote
bigskyvikes Posted October 24, 2014 Posted October 24, 2014 Here is why all politics is joke! A UND legend says HIS view on something and everyone here hates him now! If you don't agree with him, fine don't agree. But why do you have to slam, hate, whatever your bitching here is called? At least if this thing passes or whatever you guys can blame it on Oshie! Blame and hate, par for the course! 4 Quote
Redneksioux Posted October 24, 2014 Posted October 24, 2014 Since he chose to endorse maybe he should be open to the criticism no? And big surprise an out of stater backing a measure to give out of stater's control of North Dakota's dollars. Quote

UND1983 Posted October 24, 2014 Posted October 24, 2014 To be clear - I love Oshie as a hockey player but I hate measure 5 Exactly. Nothing against his hockey skills or history with UND hockey but he is now becoming a political spokesman by backing that crap measure. Quote
Redneksioux Posted October 24, 2014 Posted October 24, 2014 I'm surprised they actually got THE tj oshie. Why didn't they just get some random guy who says he's a hockey player - that's what they did for their supposed Mandan teacher on their ad! Quote
Oxbow6 Posted October 24, 2014 Posted October 24, 2014 Measure 5 is nothing more than a huge money grab by multiple entities so that they can have opportunities to create more worthless jobs! Plus The Nature Conservancy is far and away the biggest financial backer in support of this measure.......that is a huge red flag to say the least. Quote

The Sicatoka Posted October 24, 2014 Posted October 24, 2014 Measure 5 would commit at least $300 million per biennium (aka $150 million per year). Let's say ND land is an average of $2350/acre in North Dakota (maybe high for SW ND ranch-only land, low for beet dirt in the RRV). At $2350/acre a section is about $1.5 million. That's 100 sections of land a year ==> a 10 mile by 10 mile square every year. That's crazy. Another way to look at it: Both the ND Farmers Union (very Democrat) and ND Farm Bureau (very Republican) oppose it. If you can make those two groups agree on something, you're messed up. Quote

I'm against this measure, but I doubt much land would be purchased because the governor would have to sign off on that. Quote
