Blackheart
Perhaps the NC$$ will at least offer them a chair as they politely nod, tap a copy of the settlement on the table and discreetly check their watches. Well at least the North Dakota leaders are going to give this one more try...any chance they could leave Kelley at home?

yababy8
Spirit lake leadership should be invited as they have held a democratic vote on the matter. And they are the only group that can make that claim. They deserve to be able to look the NCAA in the face and say to them, "Just like the federal gov. did to our people you are taking something away from our people after we have made it clear to you that it is against our wishes.. As it is for all Of the the people of North Dakota, UND is our school and Sioux is OUR name!"

bigskyvikes
As if with Minnesota and Wisconsin leaving, the WCHA is any position to dump UND. Plus, the Badgers and Gophers showed their true colors about how they really felt about the nickname after they announced their plans to leave the conference. Is there any love for our logo in St. Cloud and Mankato and Duluth? When's the last time you heard McLeod speak strongly in favor of UND keeping its nickname? I'm guessing that he feels the need to keep a low profile on the issue. LMAO, so what your saying is Mn and Wisc left the conference because of the Sioux nickname? LOL Now lets start the conspiracy that St cloud, Mankato, and Duluth are upset with it! WOW!!

LOL Now lets start the conspiracy that St cloud, Mankato, and Duluth are upset with it! WOW!! I think what he's saying is... 1) The WCHA has taken a big hit losing Minnesota and Wisconsin and couldn't afford to cut loose UND even if they had an issue with the Sioux name, which they don't seem to. 2) As soon as Minnesota and Wisconsin signed on to the BTHC they indicated that they might not play the Sioux anymore because of the nickname issue... they had no choice in the WCHA, now they do. Nickname had nothing to do with them leaving, however moving to the BTHC gave them an opportunity to be PC or however they want to spin it. 3) While the WCHA brass and the teams left haven't stated publicly that they have an issue with the nickname, don't assume that means they will have our back in a fight. There could be more Minnesota/Wisconsin-type sentiment out there than we are aware of. I think if there's one lesson from this whole nickname process it's 'don't assume anything'. Speez
Carlson et al are going to come back calling it "Our Rectum Got Poked" tour. If the delegation acts like some of the posters on this board & lays down like the wussies (sp) that whine like a bunch of babies when some one shows some nads then they will get them handed to them. They need to put up a united front & use all the ammo they can in this meeting. It would be smart to take a SL contingent & keep Kelley in the background during the meeting. Don't blow this chance, it may be the last one to keep the Sioux name. 2

bincitysioux
Yeah it would be nice to have some Spirit Lake people there........................ Forget about replacing Stenjem with Wrigley..........if anybody should be replaced amongst the representation, it should be Al Carlson. My question is why is Jody Hodgson going? To answer questions about the REA? Bull........... REA is not a party to the settlement and he is the employee of a privately owned entity. This is a state issue. How come the GM of the Alerus Center isn't tagging along? Or a member of the Grand Forks Park Board to represent Kraft Field and Center Court Fitness? bison73
I would agree, only if the WAC would offer UND membership for all sports. FBS play would alleviate NCAA sanctions. Why would going FBS alleviate NCAA sanctions?
petey23
Why would going FBS alleviate NCAA sanctions? No football playoffs.....never going to host a regional in any major sport(mens or womens hoops, or even baseball or softball).....womens hockey could lose out though. It wouldn't alleviate the sanctions, but would make them a lot less damaging. That said, it isn't going top happen anyway.

That angle was tossed out the window the day Spirit Lake took a vote. Ever since that vote, we haven't heard a peep about how Indians are discriminated against and about how this whole anti-logo movement is being conducted to help our Native American brothers and sisters. Yes, once the vote was in, Mike Jacobs and Tom Dennis switched their editorials from the discrimination angle to the poor student athlete angle. As long as the belief was out there that the tribes wanted the name and logo gone, Jacobs, Dennis, Bernard Franklin, Robert Kelley and the rest of the anti's had nothing but sympathy for Native American's. Now, they don't want to hear about, and they no longer have any sympathy for, what the Native American's want because it doesn't align with their beliefs as Liberal white men. The Far Lefties want, and need, people to be dependent on them. It's what keeps them going in life. These are the same types of people who put Native American's on the reservations. They knew that that's what was best for them. So now, even though Native American's want their name and heritage remembered through the University of North Dakota, the elites know that getting rid of this disgusting name and logo is what's best for them. And, of course these people should know what's best for Native American's because they are highly educated academics. How could any low-life ever question the wisdom of a Dr. Bernard Franklin or Dr. Robert Kelley? In their eyes the only Native American's that know how "real" Indians should feel are the one's that have spent most of their life getting degree's. Guy's like Leigh Jenoette and Ron His Horse Is Thunder have the wisdom that perks up the ears of Franklin and Kelley. Any other Native American that lives on a reservation and doesn't at least have a B.S. degree, needs someone much smarter to make their decisions. Thankfully they have the smart white guys at the NCAA, the University of Wisconsin, University of Iowa, University of Minnesota and the University of North Dakota to make decisions for them. The name will have to go because so much damage has been done to UND in the eyes of academics. This damage was done by academics, not by the Sioux Nation within the borders of North Dakota. The sad part is that Franklin, Kelley and other elites have also done immeasurable damage to most of the Sioux Indians at Spirit Lake and Standing Rock. The very people they "used" to elevate their anti-nickname policies and then quickly cast them aside like two week old underwear when those people were allowed to voice their own opinions. Since that April 21, 2009 vote, the editorials have switched from the poor discriminated against Native American's to the poor student athletes. Prior to that vote, everyone in support of the name was referred to as a racist. I would submit that these people who cast the Sioux tribes into the ditch after the 2009 votes are the real racists. UND needs the Big Sky. UND needs elite student athletes to compete in the Big Sky. Unless some miracle happens in Indianapolis on July 25th UND needs to retire the name. It will be a sad day for North Dakota Native American's and a sad day for UND alumni. There is a bright spot though. Just think about the 10's (or maybe 100's) of millions of dollars that are going to start rolling into UND for academic programs, the new practice facility, and the new on-campus retractable roof football stadium after the offensive nickname is retired. Not only that but a whole bunch of fans who have been shut out from attending UND athletic events due the the offensive name will now be flooding into the new arena's and stadium's. Attendance is going sky rocket. And if you think this jump in attendance is the result of Montana's & Montana State's rolling into town on a regular bases, you'll only have to read the editorials to realize that it's the result of all these fans who were shut out of the arena's because of the offensive nickname. Nickname supporters, you can now lighten up on your donations because the anti's have all this built up support that's going to roll in come July 25th. 8

I remember when he was asked by a Herald reporter which of the Sioux logos in the REA would be very difficult to remove. He said "All of them." That alone tells you how helpful he will be at a meeting with the NCAA. There are going to be way too many cooks in the kitchen from the UND/ND delegation at this meeting. The people who are going don't even agree on how this issue should be handled. I wish I could sit in on the meeting with a bag of popcorn. NDSUguy
Now that there is a meeting in place, what are the general thoughts regarding talking points for the ND delegates? What leverage will the Gov et al have that would sway the NCAA? Many have talked about not laying down to the NCAA. While I think that the group will have to be assertive, they also need to present with more than just a "pretty please" request. What can they say or do that would make the NCAA change its mind? Discuss.
