New article with more quotes:

Quote

Carson Pilgrim grew up in Warroad. His family sometimes traveled to Grand Forks to attend UND hockey games.

Pilgrim particularly enjoyed watching those from his hometown who went on to be college hockey stars.

"I was a really big fan when I was younger, watching T.J. Oshie and Brock Nelson," Pilgrim said. "We'd go to games every now and then. I remember watching them and dreaming of playing there. It finally happened. It's something special."

Pilgrim will be the first Warroad player since Nelson and Oshie — both of whom are now in the midst of lengthy NHL careers — to play at UND.

Quote

"It's a really nice facility," Pilgrim said. "They have really nice coaches. I got along with them well. They treated me and my family well, which is a huge part in it. I love their culture, especially coming from Warroad. It just felt like it was the best fit for me."

Pilgrim made recruiting visits to UND and Minnesota Duluth, where his prep linemate, Jayson Shaugabay, is headed.

"I thought about it over the weekend," Pilgrim said. "I talked it over with my family and made the decision (Sunday)."

Quote

At the moment, Pilgrim is planning to take the same development path as a couple of his old Warroad teammates, Shaugabay and Clarkson-bound Daimon Gardner, by playing his senior season at Warroad, while joining a junior hockey team before and after the prep season.

No United States Hockey League team currently holds Pilgrim's rights. He will likely be a high pick in the USHL Phase II Draft on May 3.

His arrival date at UND is up in the air and depends on his development.

Or, you know, Berry too? LOL

The kid became a fan in the Hak era, not the Berry era.  Did Berry even try recruiting him or did Carson just state he was playing for UND and Berry said "oh, what?  a kid WANTS to play for us?  We don't have to get only upperclassmen from Lindenwood and Alaska to make a team?"

Why wouldn’t UND recruit him?  Seems like an odd thing to say.

Considering it just said in the Herald article he picked UND over Duluth, and how he liked the coaching staff and how they treated his family, it is pretty clear we were recruiting him. We didn’t just snap our fingers to make it happen.

Ya that MUST be it.
Berry is reading the Sunday Herald and gets the call from the kid.

After introductions, the kid tells him he wants to come to UND.

Berry had one question: What position do you play?

Is that what you think happened here?

Don't forget UNO!  ;) :D

At this point, Berry could get Fantilli to transfer over to UND and Eiserman to swap commitments to UND and you'd still be upset with him.  ;)

Well, he said he's a Bulldog fan in an interview, so maybe a little credit is warranted to Bubs?

You sure? Seems like HG thought Pilgrim was a slam dunk and Bubs didn't do much, based on that comment. Whatever, not a big deal. Just think Bubs deserves his roses every now and then.

That's what happens when posters (we) keep posting from the same viewpoint:   others continue to expect it of you.

Actually feel sorry for people that need to take a negative and pessimistic slant on everything.  How sad it would be to go through life not recognizing the many positives, especially after the horrible Covid years.

UND has seven NHL draft picks lined up at forward for next season.

Incoming freshman Jayden Perron will soon be No. 8 — and he could be among the highest on the team.

Perron was ranked as the No. 43 North American skater available for the 2023 NHL Draft by the NHL's Central Scouting Bureau, leading all UND recruits.

UND defenseman commit Andrew Strathmann, who will come to campus in 2023 or 2024, is No. 44. Incoming freshman defenseman Jake Livanavage, who was passed over in last year's draft, is No. 181. Forward commit David Klee is at No. 188.

Quote

The highest-drafted players on UND's 2023-24 roster at the moment are Dylan James (No. 40 overall, second round), Blake (No. 109 overall, fourth round), Jackson Kunz (No. 113 overall, fourth round) and incoming Omaha transfer Cameron Berg (No. 125 overall, fourth round).

Been here for 16 years and have hardly been all that negative.  I'm sure after thousands of posts a few have slipped in.  The sudden change is that I, and many others, have given Berry his multiple chances to get the program back on track, but the program keeps getting worse while rival programs have had success.  Our program seemingly had multiple good recruits every year, not just the occasional good recruit maybe every couple of years.  We had more accountability top-to-bottom and now there seems like there is none when you see what kind of roster turnover and the fact we are relying on the portal more than peers to even make a roster.

Really?  Wow!  Here we have a kid who WAS a Sioux fan at a young age watching Hak's program.  Then, after watching UND under Berry's control he ends up a Duluth fan?

Fortunately, Berry doesn’t rely on you or anyone else on this forum for his “chances”.

Complacency kills.

Who has been complacent?  It’s been a busy time in the last 10 days or so. The portal commits should fill some big holes. The Pilgrim commit is a great get.
