hawksfan12 Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago How would you rank UND's rivals? It feels to me like: 1a. Minnesota 1b. Denver 3. UMD / Wisconsin ? 4. ? Others I thought of: SCSU, Omaha, BC, BU 1 Quote
fightingsioux4life Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago 1. MINNESOTA (Realignment be d@mned) 2. Denver 3. Duluth 4. Wisconsin 5. BC 6. BU Quote
nascar99 Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago 1. Minnesota (big gap) 2. Denver 3. Minnesota Duluth 4. St Cloud State Wisconsin, Michigan, Boston College, & Boston University would be in consideration if North Dakota played them every year, but they don't, so they fail to register for me. 1 Quote

This looks about right. Think of who you definitely don’t want to win a national title and the order, and this is it. Michigan would probably be next, because I would like UND to catch Denver and them in titles. 2 Quote
AlphaMikeFoxtrot Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago Season-ending games going both ways are necessary for a rivalry. Been too long since we've ended BU's season, and Quinny has never done it to us. Ditto Omaha. 1 Quote
Fratt Mattin Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago 1. Minnesota (big gap) 2. Denver 3. Duluth (big gap) 4. St. Cloud Back in the day Wisconsin would've been an easy #3, pushing for #2, but the heat's been gone from that rivalry for a while. 2 2 Quote

Question about Wisconsin - during the “Wisconsin Wars” of the early ‘80s, wouldn’t they have been #2 outright, or did Denver still have a hold on #2 then? I was born at the height of the Wisconsin rivalry, so I was too young to remember any of it. Also, from what I’ve gathered through experience and conversations, Wisconsin was more of a friendly rivalry, with each team’s fans rooting for the other if playing Minnesota. 2 Quote

For a few years in the eighties, the intensity of the Wisconsin rivalry might have surpassed that of the Minnesota rivalry. Most physical hockey I can recall. Quote
Sweethockey Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago Ubered from the casino to Vikre Distillery. The driver said we were the Bulldogs biggest rival. He asked if they were ours. I said that they rank right up there. Gophers were still on the top of the list with Denver at a close second and then Daloot. At least that’s how I feel about it 2 Quote
hawksfan12 Posted 12 hours ago Author Posted 12 hours ago What's it going to take for Denver to pass Minnesota on the rivalry list? I feel like they have been inching up over the years. Quote

For sure, but I do think the border/proximity/regionality of the North Dakota Minnesota rivalry will keep it relevant & heightened despite realignment. Tons of students and North Dakota fans from the state of Minnesota. Denver is a rival because of the on ice element, but their lack of proximity & lack of sizable fanbase means the rivalry mainly stays on the ice. 1 Quote
cberkas Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago Minnesota Denver Wisconsin Duluth ASU Western Michigan BC BU St. Cloud CC Miami Michigan State Maine Mankato Bemidji Michigan Tech St. Thomas Augustana (forgot about them) Michigan (don't play them enough to be a rival) Omaha 5-6 are the new rivals 7-11 are all about the same Omaha is always last Quote

Plus not many Denver fans have extra long forearms and thick, sloping foreheads. 2 Quote
