3x3 is just the worst. That's it. That's the story.

I'd be in favor of them just calling it a tie if it goes to OT.  You can play the three on three or the shootout and give your winner an extra point, but national seeding and conference championships being determined by pond hockey isn't for this guy.

Should be a 8 minute 5x5 still tied shootout for the extra point.

Shootouts are even worse than 3×3. Like having a putt off on 18 at the WM Phoenix Open tomorrow if there's a tie at 72 holes.

Side tangent....made my first appearance at the WMPO earlier this week. Frat party chaos coupled with plastic surgery overload. How people want to do that for multiple days is crazy?!?!

I don’t like shootouts, but this seems a nice compromise.  Otherwise skip the shootout and give each team only one point after 10 min if tied. Both miss out on a point.  Provides even more incentive to score in OT.

I like to live in reality. The reality is, we were out played for three periods by a team that a lot of people continue to sleep on. Check my post history. We should be thanking the Gophers for sweeping last weekend….

Well, it will all come out in the wash at the end of the season like it always does.

What I find annoying with your posts is that you make it sound like this is last year's team all over again.

However the season ends, this season is 100x better than last season ever was. I am choosing to be positive about this team and program again.

But keep up the Eeyore approach if that makes you happy.

Last night was a legit loss but not a particularly hurtful one.   They’ll stay focused, I think.

They haven’t done well 3x3, but have shown their mettle tying up games late in the 3rd when they had to.   As someone said above, they won’t see 3x3 in the NCAAs.

It was disappointing we couldn’t get the tie in the NPI, but if we can take care of business the rest of the season, both losses to Duluth this year took long winning streaks against Duluth both home and away off the bulletin board for Duluth for future meetings while still gaining points.  That’s the optimistic side, but Duluth is still in fight for home ice with Miami, so we better be ready for another tough one tonight.

I’m hoping they see that leaving any game to a next goal wins scenario can end in huge disappointment in the NCAA.  In other words, it is nice to have that late game confidence to come back if necessary, but play well enough early in the game so you are not putting your season on the line in the NCAA tournament with as little as a bad bounce of the puck.  Hopefully Dane is making that very thing clear to them.

I’m intrigued by this, but I’m not sure if it would incentivize scoring, unless that point was needed late season for home ice or regular season conference championship. I feel this would return to the previous OT strategy of “don’t lose.”

This could play out big time come playoffs.

I was never a big fan of giving points for a team getting to overtime in the NHL.  Many teams play cautious near the end of the game to secure the point.  There are teams in the NHL that have 20 plus of 55 games that go to overtime.  That’s 40 % of your games being decided by 3x3 or shootout, and we know what a crapshoot that is. Your top 6 players and goaltender are basically deciding that 40%.  A team built like UND with great depth, with young, but not yet elite talent is not able to utilize what makes them great.  Enough of rant, it is what it is.

Would work for me.

They do that for youth hockey now which is even more ridiculous especially while trying to develop young athletes/hockey players 3v3 full ice for dumb

Amsoil (and maybe western) seems to be the only other good NCHC atmosphere outside of UND.

SCSU - boring

Miami - lame

CC - snooze

Denver - underwhelming

Omaha - meh

The atmosphere at Lawson was great when we were there.

My question is which NCHC team would you rather swap our season with up to this point? Denver went into our series on a four game losing streak (and lost to Lindenwood early in the year), UMD entered this one on a four game losing streak, Western started slow and lost to Miami yesterday.

With all of the transfers and freshman playing critical roles, I would have never imagined we would be in this place especially after the last few years. I’d love a 1 seed but this team can be incredibly dangerous come tourney time no matter where they are seeded.  And not only offensively, we have a goalie that could go on a run and steal a close game or two if needed.
