Schmidt NOT happy fans left in the 3rd quarter.

The University does absolutely nothing to promote this program. The Alerus is a dump, and who would sit through a third quarter like that? Longtime and hardcore fans, sure.

Been to 2 of them but not Idaho St.  Yuck and yuck.

Liked that the UNI Dome had Teflon translucent section in center of roof.  I know they did work on the roof recently to add a Teflon covering but wondering if it always had a section that allowed some light in.  Anybody know?  I think something like that would be a nice improvement to the Alerus when the time comes.

It was originally built with a Teflon bubble roof, similar to the Metrodome and the Dakota Dome. Both the UNI-Dome and Dakota Dome have since upgraded to more structural, load-bearing roof designs. UNI opted for a translucent center section, while the Dakota Dome did not. In Minneapolis, they simply shot holes in the Metrodome roof and captured the collapse on video—footage that later served as convenient leverage to push for a new stadium.

the rigged roof collapse was a little over the top...

all you have to do is say the words "cold omaha" and those crazy libs would build anything just to prove they aren't ........

still not sure why the city doesn't add a wall of windows  (or heck glass doors leading to a outdoor club lounge behind the south catwalk)......it would be just enough to make it feel more open like the little see thru stuff at the uni dome

I don’t really get how the Alerus is a dump? I’m not saying it’s the Ralph but I don’t think it’s a dump.

Agreed, absolutely not a dump. Schmidt was asked on the 360 podcast about Alerus Center improvements, mentioned the locker room and doing a better job around the Alerus showing the history of UND football. Said it was one of his favorite things going to those big time programs and their stadiums seeing the history/all time great players.

Explain how it is a dump, have you gone to other facilities in the MVFC? Youngstown State fans were gushing yesterday about what we have.

Some natural light in the Alerus would be a huge step up.  Nice facility, but lighting is an issue.  The other gripe about the Alerus center is that the field is so ugly.  It doesn't help that I dislike the hawk logo, but when you add all the other adverts it just looks like cluster-f.  I will watch an SDSU football game just to admire their field.  Wish we could do something like that, but I am guessing the Al wants the ad revenue.

The Alerus is a good venue for FB especially in ND weather. Who would have shown up yesterday to watch outdoor FB in that wind? Especially if you're sitting and watching for 3.5 hours.

They did not shoot holes in the roof to cause it to collapse.  Three panels had collapsed due to heavy snow and wind.  They eventually shot holes with a shotgun slug in two additional panels to prevent uncontrolled collapse and protect workers who would be on the roof -  per AI overview.

interesting read here.  some of it from perspective of the maintenance guys working that night that tried to keep it from coming down.

https://www.vikings.com/news/longform/metrodome-roof-collapse-2010-aftermath

I was in the dome when it almost came down during a Twins game in April 1986.  Thunderstorm with 80 mph winds tore a hole over RF.  The wind gust pushed RF side of roof in and the opposite side bulged out.  Water came pouring in and sensors on the bulging side went off thinking that the roof was over-inflated, dropping the air pressure making it even worse.  The roof began to deflate and sag and the lights and speaker panels started swaying wildly.  It was crazy and very scary.  We were in LF bleachers near he field.  People in that section went to to top and stopped to watch once they were safely under the overhang from the upper deck, blocking the exits. We couldn't get out and were stuck there until they got it under control.   Some people jumped onto the field and ran into the dugouts. They played after a delay but we got the hell out of there.

I can still hear Bob Casey on the PA.  - Don't worry fans, even if the roof comes down it can't touch the seats so you are safe.  A minute later - EVACUATE THE UPPER DECK!  EVACUATE THE UPPER DECK!

The Alerus Center is one of the best home field advantages in FCS. I suppose you want to go back outside? :whistling:

why didn't they remove the snow?

so the engineers didn't do their job?

they let it collapse.....rigged

Read the article I linked. Is very interesting.
They tried hard to get the snow off. Shovels and fire hoses. Center section depressed a little so fire hose water collected there and made it worse so had to stop.

While it certainly is not the Ralph, the Alerus Center is not “a dump”.  Dumps were/are the Metrodome, Univ S Dak dome football stadium (a real dive), and current Wis Badgers football stadium (old…).
