SiouxScore
The only good thing about the NHL lockout is all the high school hockey coverage from FSN. Should be a good game tonight with lots of talent Class A #1 St. Thomas Academy @ AA #3 Minnetonka is on tonight at 7 on FSN.
scpa0305
Hopefully he picks it up, I was expecting Morelli to have a big year after getting selected so high in the USHL futures draft. That's what I was going to say...but didn't want to catch any flack for critizing the kid. I know he is only 16 but there are a decent amount of kids that play juniors that are 16 and put up more points (if we're talking about prospective UND recruits). I mean, UND has to recruit the best kids around...not simply feel good stories out of ND. I had buddies leave to juniors right after their sophomore years and they were putting up better numbers than that...and in the USHL no less. The NAHL is quite a lower level of play than the USHL. On a more positive note, there is a good chunk of the season left...he may turn it around. One other thing, I see he was drafted in the USHL, why wouldn't he go play there? Homesick? Typical response about wanting to spend time with friends (or girlfriend)?

If I remember correctly, the Fargo Force hold Morelli's USHL rights and he tried out for the team this past summer but didn't make it. yzerman19
sometimes you are USHL material, but the club that owns your rights is stacked with 19 year olds...the truth will come out in terms of talent, ability, and development when the Force issue their restricted list in the spring/summer
watchmaker49
Morelli's grandpa may have been a D1 caliber player in his day but his dad was never one of them.

siouxcrew87
No one has said much about North Dakota kids lately that haven't committed. Two I'm hopeful that find their way to Grand Forks. ~Jordan Nelson of the Fargo Force (Williston) has 12 points in 22 games, and is second on the team in shots on goal, with a +/- of +4. Mason Morelli of the Minot Tauros (Minot) has 9 points in 22 games, but is minus 7 in the plus minus area. I believe this is Nelson's last year of Juniors while Morelli is only a Junior in high school. I'm thinking its more likely Morelli ends up in Grand Forks (with a Grandpa and dad with ties it helps), but I'm holding out hope that a kid like Nelson could be a four year role guy for UND that gives his heart and soul every shift. I did a blog catching up with Jordan Nelson a couple weeks ago. UND is his dream school, but time will tell if the coaches feel he would be a good fit. http://emilysell.blogspot.com/

I didn't know too much about Dougherty but he looked pretty good last night and is only a junior, while I've liked Cotta since I saw him play as a freshman at Tonka he is a pure goal scorer and good skater and I believe he just recently took over as Tonka's all time leader in points which is a pretty nice accomplishment with some of the players Tonka has produced.. Frozen4sioux
Took the kids to the Bismarck Bobcats-Minot Minotaouros game last night . Tried to take notice of Morreli. He didn't see a ton of ice and truly wasn't noticeable. We shall see, he's got lots of hockey left before he sees a D1 sweater.
