I'm not comparing anything between coaching staff to coaching staff. Purely profile/production and understanding what type of player that usually becomes based on following Junior A and NCAA hockey for 30+ years. I'm obviously not a scout and there are always outliers, but age related production by league is a pretty good predictor.

Agree with you here in the sense that they were huge additions as much as middle of the lineup players could. Don't have to squint very hard to see Kernan being a 20 goal guy soon.

Yes, you're pretty much spot on. If we are devoting 25% of our salaried coaching staff to purely roster building and talent identification (when very few, if any, other programs are doing that), I would anticipate that the level of commits should generally increase as well. Especially with the additional talent pool from the CHL.

No. I'm not saying he picked the wrong guy without seeing the result. I'm saying that the player's that Chyz has brought are in line with ordinary offseason's and don't seem to be a marked improvement even with an added GM. That is my entire point with the multiple posts. With or without a GM, UND can add what they have in the last month.

You would hope the Ruck twins move up a level next year. Both were 100+ point scorers in the WHL this year, nothing left to accomplish production or development wise at that level. You'd think whoever drafts them would push them to the NCAA.

You can compare production/profiles of incoming players with past players right now. Not a single one of the acquisitions for next year so far has been anything out of the ordinary. My point is that the program has a dedicated GM that's sole purpose is roster building, and so far it appears that the roster building has been more or less at the same level as before a GM. No CHL forwards for next year is very questionable to me. Not bashing Chyz by any means, just purely making an observation.

It's been alluded to earlier in this thread, but in my opinion, this offseason has been very underwhelming so far. All of the additions (transfers or new recruits, Davis) have only become available in the last month or so. Has the devoted GM position had an appropriate ROI so far this year? I think that's a valid question. Getting one of the big three defenseman remaining (Carels, Rudolph, or Dupont) seem to be needed to justify having a dedicated "talent identifier" in lieu of a paid coach. Maybe Chyzyk has alot cooking for future years, but everything that has transpired so far this offseason could've easily been completed with a traditional coaching staff.

Reschny and Josephson were both around 55% as freshman, you'd imagine they'd improve quite a bit next year. Kernan was a touch over 50%, so solid for a freshman.

It'll be interesting to see if the bottom six exodus is going to be a recurring thing. Looking at the projected top six for next year (Swanson, Reschny, Zellers, Josephson, Kernan, and Simpson). One Junior, four Sophs, one Freshman. Croal, Zakreski, and Menghini will for sure be in the lineup. At least two of them most likely on the third line. Neither of the Schultz's have a profile that suggests are going to supplant any of those nine forwards next year. Are 4th line minutes (at most, IMO) enough for them for one or two years?

I feel like this is the new norm. Bottom of the lineup players with upside just aren't going to stick around. Even with Wiebe/Liv moving on, Strath was going to be the #4 at best next year behind Verhoeff, Emery, and Laurila. Good change MacKenzie would leapfrog him too. That isn't even accounting for freshman commits or transfers that are incoming. Very good change Strath has the same row in 26-27 here as he did in 25-26. Probably not enough for him. Similar thing to Klee, would he have ever gotten above a 3rd line spot in his career here? I'm not sure.

The portal is closed, the only reason Gordon was able to is because of the recent coaching change at Michigan Tech.

Agreed - Perron is a very curious transfer. Why is someone getting substantial NIL money (supposedly) after generating a career high 19 points while getting top six minutes and prime powerplay time. He is the type of player that was hyped as a potential elite college player, but lacking the size and top end speed to be an NHLer. Hasn't been the case whatsoever.

Holy !@#$ Jackson has some work to do for next year. With all of the departures, the forward group for next year is shaping up to be one of the worst in UND history.

Agreed - I think he no question cemented his place on the Olympic team with his play. He was paired with Werenski all night on the second pairing and did well. Slavin-Faber Hughes-McAvoy Sanderson-Werenski That's one formidable d-corp. Fox was exposed in my opinion and has no business in a best-on-best tourney moving forward. Hughes and Werenski are better powerplay options anyway.

Can't wait to see Swanson keep proving people wrong. Add another chip on his shoulder with this.

If Zellers goes in the 2nd/3rd round, he has to come in the fall right? Hopefully Berry learned his lesson on the Shattuck guys with Scott Morrow. If he's ready, bring him in.

I wonder what his expectations were coming into this year. It was very clear that he would be battling to get in the lineup all year. Strinden isn't coming out, Kunz is progressing, and Albrecht is a veteran presence that brings a predictable game. I didn't see a single flash the entire year from Emerson that told me he was getting slighted in the least. If anything, he looked more and more like the clear cut bottom forward on the team (behind Ness and Montgomery). Just my opinion, but I thought he would've brought much more to the table this year as an older freshman that just put up over a point/game in the USHL.

You're forgetting Keith McInnis too. If he has a bounce back year, I could see him being a 3rd round guy potentially.

I sure hope not. Why would he play three years in Junior A and then make the jump after his draft year? It's not like the pandemic forced him down here as the WHL wasn't shutdown like other Major Junior leagues. If he does jump, it makes the Spicer situation that much worse.

I was thinking about this as well regarding James. As good of a season that he is having, does he step right in next year in a Top-9 role?

I'm pretty sure Gaber has scored as many points in a weekend as Ryder Donovan has in his NCAA career. Tough to speak to his situation, but potentially dodged a bullet there. No question this stings. Would he have helped next year? Probably not much. 2, 3, 4 years down the road? He definitely had the potential and pedigree to be a top of the lineup player as an upperclassman.

Hopefully he comes back soon. Him and Caulfield have been very underwhelming thus far after I expected them both to take the next step.

This appears to be a big get. Tough for a sophomore to play in the USHL, let alone put up 0.5 PPG as a defenseman. Good size too.

Wonder what the reason was. Maybe he sees all of these other recruits jumping him and foresees a lack of playing time. Happens a lot with these early commits, especially the larger forwards who dominate at lower levels due to physical maturity.
