The money gap between Fargo and Grand Forks is a lot wider than the talent gap between NDSU and UND football.  That’s a new one on me.  The Teammakers check was $6.5M

Not discounting what you're saying but some additional clarity is that over 7 figures of that is coming from their gaming, not donors.

Still room to make up on UND's part though.

I have it's me also there is a good contingent of Sioux people I know out here.  Especially Sioucx hockey which gets played at every bar and there do events for it.  One of the bars in Dickinson had shots for every UND goal that was not a good time for me.  The NDSU UND football game last year was 50/50 there were alot of cheers when UND scored.

I'm one of those people thinking there will eventually be three levels of D-1 football with three championships and didn't want to get stuck with the I-AAA teams which is basically the FCS.

This is what I want UND to prepare for.

UND athletics needs to continue to push the envelope. There are certainly ways to be creative (and some of it is just hard work and effort along with vision, to be frank) and improve fundraising, specifically for football.

UND feels it would be inappropriate to steal a revenue stream intended for actual nonprofits.

I can appreciate the gesture and morals, but it won’t win or accomplish anything for UND.

No one is going to write a check because UND is so unbelievably morally sound, but athletics and winning (whether you like it or not) does yield significant support in this day and age.

Revenue via Hockey only (the Ralph) won’t work by itself. THE University of North Dakota has too many alumni who want UND athletics to be more than just hockey when it comes to athletics.

Aggressive fundraising is necessary, and it has been lacking; it doesn’t have to be completely immoral.

This ^^^^^^^

Well known by those in the know in Fargo that NDSU or maybe I should say Teammakers has tried to pull the rug under nonprofits in order to get gaming sites.  Charitable gaming is a dog eat dog world.  Like you mentioned, intended for nonprofit outfits, and thats not always the way things work out.

While technically true, I can see NDSU going to a bowl game right away anyways. Teams are opting out of bowl games left and right now, which forces them to add teams that normally wouldn’t qualify. Last year, Missouri State and Delaware were among the first teams to be placed in bowl games once other teams like Notre Dame had opted out. Combine this with the fact that I have a hard time believing NDSU won’t get at least 6 wins in their first season in such a weak conference.

Can someone explain what SU is doing?  Using nonprofits to fund their football program?

FCS champ game in Nashville smashed attendance records.

NDSU probably would have won fewer if not getting playoffs at home 90+ %.

Great rivalries with El Paso, Hawaii,  other teams etc.? They'll all love to travel to FARGO ND!!

MWC conf games and toilet bowl games,......other than Hawaii and Vegas.......be still my heart. Really exciting!

Travel costs, UFDA!

Have fun!

When were they gifted home playoff games?  They were a top 4 seed most seasons it seemed like where the majority of games will be at home.

Teammakers (basically the NDSU version of UND's champions club) is a nonprofit.  In North Dakota, certain nonprofits are allowed to conduct charitable gambling.  Traditionally this meant blackjack, pulltabs, etc. that you see in bars around the state.  The state started allowing electronic pulltabs, basically slot machines, maybe 6 years ago and they have been a HUGE money-maker for the nonprofits, significantly increasing revenue.

This is high school thinking.

If we are going to modernize our fundraising model, we will have to do things that we haven't done in the past.

The expenses for running a Division I intercollegiate athletic department will only increase over time, not decrease.

The traditional model of Champions Club, season ticket sales and 50/50 raffles are not sufficient for the path we have chosen.

If we ever decided to go FBS, we will need a lot of money to make the move worth our while.

A lot of people on here will not like this post, but it is the harsh truth of the college athletics world we now live in.

This is not going to happen. Neither is your myopic focus on relegation.
