Makes me wonder if a home run type of hire may have reached out and contacted Chaves in private and said… I would be very interested in this job if it happened to open up…lots of loose lips in this small town for there not to be a read or tell on this. Chaves doesn’t talk to anyone to begin with so contacting him in private would be safe. 1 Quote

The suspense on this is more exciting than most of this season was. 5 Quote

Both parents were teachers and his Dad was his HS hockey coach. Very smart, tough hard nosed defenseman. He also played RB in FB. Gained over 1000 yds in both his Jr and Sr seasons. Quick, fast, heavy hitter. He and Reed Manke were key players who led DL to the 2001 state championship. A honor student. Played 3 yrs in USHL for Lincoln, then 4yrs at St. Cloud. Voted A as Soph and C his Jr and Sr years. All WCHA defenseman and I believe he was an academic All-American. Played professional hockey in Norway and Finland before assistant at StCloud then Minn. Hired by Josh Morton to start Augie program and help oversee building their new arena. Watched player interviews. He makes them a bit nervous cuz he is no nonsense and very smart but they respect and like him. Gopher fans want him back. He is a hell of a recruiter. Quiet guy, nice guy. Players will play for him cuz they won’t want to let him down. Excellent teacher. I haven’t asked if he is interested and I won’t. I have no idea if UND is interested in him but he should be considered. You’re right and I didn’t want to go back and change my post after people had quoted it but I was incorrect on the 5 years/medical redshirt thing. My bad. He played a full four and then went to Europe. I had him confused with Drew LeBlanc for some reason. He played 38 of 40 games as a walk on freshman and not sure if he missed a game after. Assistant captain as a sophomore and captain as junior and senior. His time and my time at SCSU overlapped identically so I saw every home game he ever played. 3 Quote

OopsSioux Posted March 25 Posted March 25 Bottom line I'm happy to see they're moving on from Berry. Watching the teams of the last few years has been pretty uninspiring. The last game of the year was a perfect example and was status quo. It truly feels like a ton of the mistakes that were still being made at the end of the season were absolutely correctable through coaching. To note: I think the talent pool of this year's UND team was fine. Certainly not the best but they should have been better. No look passes seemingly normal in your own end , lackadaisical breakouts, the worst penalty kill I've ever seen by UND, poor goaltending (not in the final game.). Just overall the grit Berry was talking about was awful and not there. Haks teams even when less talented still always developed some kind of an identity through the season and generally played much better. These few years remind me Lucia's tenure at the goofs. 2 3 1 Quote

Gwozdeckey/Denver honored the scholarship that Carle was going to get as a player there. It'd be a waste of time to call. 😆 2 Quote

Quitting is blatantly abandoning your responsibility. "Stepping down" is voluntarily leaving and giving up the contract. Of course behind the scenes could be anything ("step down publically but for contract reasons we'll still pay you.") Regardless Berry seemed to want people to know he was fired....otherwise its...."we mutually agreed to part ways." (And still get paid) 2 Quote

Look at that 2011-2012 team. Injuries depleted them all season long but they won the wcha tournament. Mind you, their captain at the time was what a UND captain should be. That’s what made Hakstol a good coach, getting 110% out of all his players. 2 4 Quote
AJS Posted March 25 Posted March 25 2 hours ago, ksixpack said: Correct, Schlossman putting way too much stock in portal deadline…MN fired their basketball coach weeks ago; Colorado State loses in big dance last night and poof, he is hired by Gophers today. There was obviously an agreement put in place long before this morning for him to be the next Gophers BB coach. It appears this may be the case with UND hockey…this announcement of a new hockey coach appears like it may have been in the works for some time. As for the portal deadline…a simple message to players advisors of “no need to rush; you may make a huge mistake” would sufficiently keep them in place until the end Frozen Four if need be. No player would bolt the place they chose until after knowing the facts; especially if a home run hire is eminent. I’m really leaning this way as well. Seems incredibly short sided if you think there’s a viable candidate and you don’t at least see if they get knocked off in the regionals. The way I see it, nobody is going to enter on Sunday that wasn’t going to already. If they are going to at least hear the new coach out, they would wait an extra couple days. I do think waiting until after the Frozen Four would be too long, so those 4 would be out. You start the interview process with the other candidates as scheduled. Quote
