SiouxFan100 Posted January 4 Author Posted January 4 According to FanDuel, Notre Dame is the 1.5-point favorite over Penn State. Oddsmakers expect a fairly low-scoring game with the total set at 46.5 points. On the other side of the bracket, No. 8 Ohio State is the 5.5-point favorite over No. 5 Texas. 1 Quote
Mama Sue Posted January 6 Posted January 6 Well ND looks tough, powerful but I am cheering for Penn. I loved the 4th quarter of the AZ TX game. I wish AX had won. They left their hearts on the field! Quote

Wilbur Posted January 9 Posted January 9 I've been a Notre Dame fan for years as my parents didn't have cable and NBC was the decent channel we got. I've probably killed their mojo as they haven't won anything since I've been a fan. I think at this point the winner of tomorrow's game is the favorite. My pick right now is Ohio State. 3 Quote
SiouxFan100 Posted January 9 Author Posted January 9 Hoping for a good game tonight. Both teams have significant injuries to deal with. May the best team win. Quote
SiouxScore Posted January 9 Posted January 9 Took Ohio State over Penn State for the national championship in my bowl picks and still feel good about that. Been perfect in the playoff games so far. Feel like Penn State and Notre Dame are very similar teams but think Allar is the better QB. Love also not being fully healthy really hurts the Iris. Quote
SiouxFan100 Posted January 9 Author Posted January 9 Wow ”In quite a shocking decision, Georgia quarterback Carson Beck plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal, On3's Pete Nakos reported Thursday afternoon. ESPN's Pete Thamel later confirmed the bombshell.” Quote

My dad was a huge Notre Dame fan so I became one too. He was also a Green Bay Packer fan but I didn't follow him with that one 1 Quote

nodakvindy Posted January 10 Posted January 10 Listening to ESPN broadcast sure makes me long for Keith Jackson. McDonough is good on other sports, but Gregg mcelroy adds nothing. Not sure how he has this gig. 1 Quote
nodakvindy Posted January 10 Posted January 10 Irish looked great in second half. Freeman is a great coach. Hope he stays there a while. 1 Quote
SiouxFan100 Posted January 10 Author Posted January 10 Great game - just the way you want these to be Finally Notre Dame proved they belonged Game could have went either way Quote

Wilbur Posted January 10 Posted January 10 Goose bumps when the FG went through. Game was starting to remind me of the Alabama national championship game in Miami when the Bama line just imposed their will on ND defense. Penn State a worthy team, I wouldn't have been too upset if we lost. I made the joke to my brother-in-law after they lost to NIU that no team had ever lost to them and won a national championship. Long ways to go, Monday the 20th I'm likely to lose years on my life. 3 Quote

I don't think he has any plans on leaving. When things are rolling there, no better job in college football. Plenty of NIL available. He's already sorta disowned his alma mater. Converted to Catholicism. Dude is 39. He hasn't spent time around the NFL and his style seems to be based around building kids and running a program. Quote

Disgusting Question, Great Answer - Speaking on the field after the game, McGrath told Freeman: 'You are the first Black head coach to go to a National Championship game in college football. Just hearing that response alone, how much does this mean to you?' In response, Freeman quickly shut down that line of questioning and said: 'I've said this before, I don't ever want to take attention away from the team. 'It is an honor and I hope all coaches - minorities, Black, Asian, White, it doesn't matter, great people - continue to get opportunities to lead young men like this. 1 Quote

His dad is a black airman from Ohio. Mom is from Korea. His wife is white. His six(!!!) kids 23&Me results look like a Walgreens receipt. I think when he says what he said, he's not pandering to Notre Dame's obviously very white fanbase. I don't think he gives a hoot about being the "first" anything. Seems to be pretty comfortable in the job now. Hired big name coordinators and let's them do their jobs. Lot of guys in his shoes (cough cough Brian Kelly) don't do that. I think it's easy for him to focus on the team. Unlike most coaches, he was a 4 or 5 star dude in the modern football era. He already had his time as big man on campus. Quote

This is not meant to take anything away from the current coach. Quote

This is not meant to take anything away from the current coach. I don't think so. If you said the job is meaningfully different from 2010, I would agree wholeheartedly. Dude hated recruiting by the end. Its a tough job. Lots of shaking hands and kissing babies compared to every other CFB job. The administration is not always super football friendly. It is a draining job relative to the other blue bloods. Notre Dame is always popular with parents. You need to sell it to kids. Freeman was a blue chip kid himself 20 years ago. He's got that dog in him. The only recruiting battles he's losing right now are over guaranteed money or kids who don't want to get a degree. Kelly did a wonderful job restoring a high floor at Notre Dame. There were many issues he fixed on the admin side and program side. But Notre Dame fans dont want to go 11-2 getting blown out in their playoff game. Freeman said let's make a higher ceiling by bringing in kids and prepare them to win big games. He's undefeated in bowl/postseason games. He's making Notre Dame cool again to people who have hated ND for years...but more importantly, after this season, they might get to start shopping down another aisle at the grocery store. Quote
